Step into Garlic Village Mayuan and experience the joy of life in a family-concept community
In life, what do we need? Is making big money important? Or is creating a comfortable environment for everyone important? Or is seeing the smiles of the elderly around us important?
Let us think about it: these questions have always existed in the lives of modern people, yet often we cannot attend to all of them at once. So it is that in modern communities, because of the promotion of comprehensive community development, because residents are willing to participate, and because of everyone's consensus, many interesting and rich living environments have been created.
In the rural communities of Yunlin, there is a group of enthusiastic elders working together with one heart, not simply sitting and waiting for others, but through years of learning, participation, and practice, putting their decades of professional expertise to lively use here in Mayuan Village, Citong Township. The entire community has a population of less than 2,000. As with other rural villages, there is a certain proportion of population aging. Its industries are mainly garlic, rice, potatoes… and so on. This place is not known mainly for its community name, but rather for the Garlic Village Mayuan Community Development Association, jointly organized by a group of warm-hearted, passionate people of all ages, old, middle-aged, young, and children, in the area. The association's main base is beside County Road 154 in Yunlin County, an ordinary-looking red-brick Sanheyuan, yet it has a huge garlic decoration hanging on it (the lighting installation created by the community for the 2017 Taiwan Lantern Festival). At the entrance there is also a small pond, and on the walls hang paintings repurposed from old-fashioned burlap sacks, said to be painted by these elders of the community. In addition, there are installations built from bamboo hats symbolizing rural life. All in all, this practice base, co-created with residents as the main consideration, the reuse of idle environments, and cultural artifacts and culture as the foundation of development, is the Garlic Village Mayuan Life Center.

In addition to caring for the elders' need for food, the community also provides both education and recreation, and takes very complete care of basic daily needs! Every day when the elders come here, they can spend the day happily and fulfillingly. Here, the community is a warm extended family.
