A Complete Analysis of the Latest Growing Conditions for Cauliflower
Cauliflower is a vegetable of the cruciferous family, originally a vegetable greatly favored by people in the Mediterranean region. It is a nutritious, vitamin-rich vegetable. It has long been widely cultivated in China. It can be grown in both northern and southern regions. What exactly are its specific growing conditions? Providing sufficient growing conditions is also for the sake of good growth. So now let's take a look.
1. Temperature
It is prone to frost damage below zero degrees, so overwintering in open-field cultivation in winter is very difficult. And above 25 degrees it is very hard to form a curd, so its growth has strict temperature requirements. It is neither cold-tolerant nor heat-tolerant. For stem and leaf growth and curd formation, it is best between 20 and 25 degrees. But when the curd forms, it still has to go through a low-temperature vernalization stage. Otherwise the curd will not form well. It can germinate well at around 8 degrees.
2. Soil
It is not strict about soil requirements; ideally fertile sandy loam, with somewhat deeper soil, because its root system has fairly strong growth capacity; in compacted soil, root growth is poor. A pH of around 5.5 is best. It can tolerate soil with somewhat more accumulated salt, but it is best not to plant it in saline-alkali land. It can still grow in soil with a salt content within 0.5%, which is a rare adaptability.
3. Water
Water requirements are strict; it must be alternately dry and moist, with no waterlogging, no flooding, and no being washed by water. But it is also not drought-tolerant; drought will not do, and the soil must maintain a certain amount of moisture and must not be too dry. It must not be compacted, or water will not easily penetrate. It is necessary to maintain a granular structure and a good water-permeable soil layer structure. It is best to maintain 65% moisture.
4. Light
It is not strict about light requirements, but that does not mean it needs no light, or that it should receive excessively long light. It can be planted with just the sunlight of an ordinary area where it can grow. In fact, it needs sufficient light to make the curd compact, the color better, the leaves dark green, and photosynthesis good. But with insufficient light, the curd is very small and the color is dull.
Cauliflower's growing requirements for temperature and water are fairly strict; but its requirements for soil and light are not very strict. In short, the conditions can be provided entirely according to the situation.
