In-season tomatoes basically stop fruiting in autumn, but if you want to continue growing tomatoes in autumn and the outdoor environment is unsuitable, you can use protected cultivation, and this cultivation method is late-autumn delayed cultivation. In some areas, side shoots of in-season tomatoes are used for direct cutting propagation and cultivation, with relatively good results. Next, let us learn about the specific late-autumn delayed cultivation methods together.

1. Seedling raising time

Using cutting propagation can shorten the seedling raising time and help avoid being affected too much by the external climate. Cutting can begin in June; raising seedlings at this time has relatively suitable temperatures and fast growth. But do not do it too early either; when high temperatures occur, seedlings are prone to disease, the survival rate after transplanting is low, and seedlings easily die. But if seedlings are raised too late, the cultivation period is likely to encounter frost, making it difficult for the fruit to ripen. Even after moving into protected cultivation, it will still be affected by the outside.

2. Seedling raising method

Roll up the film on both sides of the seedling shed and surround it with side film to facilitate ventilation and light exposure. Install insect-proof netting, set up a sky film and shade net, and dig drainage ditches around it. Take strong sprouts and side shoots from the base, with a few leaves attached. Cut off part of the lower end, soak in a 500-fold dilution of 25% carbendazim wettable powder for a few minutes, dry it, then dip it in rooting powder and insert it for cutting. Use a clean seedling tray, fill it with sterilized culture medium, and insert the sprout two cm into the medium. Spray thoroughly with water and place it on the seedling bed with a small arched shed covering it.

3. Seedling management

Within five days after cutting, the film must not be uncovered, and the temperature should be kept at 30 degrees; at 305 degrees, a shade net needs to be put up. Cover it when the sun comes out in the morning, and uncover it when the sun goes down in the evening; do not cover it on cloudy and rainy days. After that, spray water in the morning and evening, spray a 0.3% urea solution, then spray a 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution at an interval of two days, and after another few days, urea can be sprayed again. Apply hydrolyzed fertilizer at intervals of one week.

4. Transplanting method

Generally, after about one month of cultivation, transplanting can be carried out. A few days before transplanting, remove the flower clusters. This maintains vegetative growth and promotes growth and sprouting. Transplant on cloudy days to help with seedling recovery, reduce water evaporation, and improve the survival rate. After seedling recovery, water and fertilize to promote growth; during the seedling recovery period, harden the seedlings to help later growth. The transplanting row spacing is 20 cm, and the plant spacing is 10 cm.

For late-autumn delayed tomatoes, the method of raising seedlings from side shoots is relatively efficient. The main task is raising seedlings, and after that comes the continuous management after transplanting.
