The Latest Planting Method for Small Rapeseed (Baby Bok Choy) in Autumn and Winter
Small rapeseed is a fairly common vegetable, with good market demand and extremely high planting value. Right now is the planting season for small rapeseed, so how should it be planted in autumn and winter? Follow the editor to take a look.
1. Land preparation and fertilisation
Small rapeseed has strong adaptability and is not strict about soil requirements, but soil that is deep, fertile and loose is preferable. When planted in neutral and slightly acidic soil, its oil content is high, while in alkaline soil the oil content is low. Its seeds are small and its ability to push through the soil is poor, so after the previous crop is harvested the land must be cultivated in time to avoid loss of soil moisture. Small rapeseed has a relatively large demand for fertiliser, especially phosphate fertiliser, and the base fertiliser is best as high-quality fully decomposed organic fertiliser. In order to achieve full, even and strong seedlings and lay a solid foundation for the whole growth period, winter small rapeseed needs to be watered as a base watering one week before sowing.
2. Seed treatment
Before sowing, the seeds need to be treated by sun-drying, fine selection and disinfection. First place the seeds on a mat to dry in the sun for 2-3 days, then screen them to remove light seeds and impurities, then soak them in 10% salt water for selection and scoop out the shrivelled seeds. Then soak the selected seeds in warm water at around 50 degrees for 20, and if conditions permit, they can be soaked in 300 times diluted formalin solution for 20-25 minutes. After scooping them out, keep them covered for 2 hours and then wash them clean with water.
3. Sowing
The best sowing time for small rapeseed is when the temperature is 18-20 degrees. First choose a plot with loose, fertile soil and convenient drainage and irrigation, and apply sufficient base fertiliser. The sowing time in the seedbed can be about one week earlier than direct sowing of the same variety, and the seeding rate is about 0.8 kg per mu. When the seedlings grow two true leaves, thin them out, with a seedling spacing of about 3-6 cm; when 3-4 true leaves appear, finalise the seedlings, with the plant spacing determined according to the planned density. If pests are severe, finalising the seedlings should be postponed at the right time, and if gaps appear, replanting should be carried out.
4. Field management
After planting out, 5 kg of nitrogen fertiliser can be applied per mu as a top dressing to strengthen the roots and promote growth. After the top dressing, water once to strengthen the roots. Before entering winter, apply a winter fertiliser once, and 10-15 days before the soil freezes, water once with winter water. After the thaw in early spring, promptly remove the winter covering soil, and shallowly loosen the soil to preserve moisture and promote spring growth. Before bolting, first apply a bolting fertiliser, applying 10-15 kg of ammonium sulphate per mu, and also pay attention to the application of micronutrients.
