Before planting cauliflower, choosing the variety is very important and is the key to successful planting. In production, poor quality and yield problems often occur because of variety selection. So farmers and friends must choose a good cauliflower variety before planting. Then how should you choose a cauliflower variety? Follow the editor to take a look.

1. Choose seeds according to market demand

First, choose varieties according to different markets. The northern market requires varieties with white curd color, compactness, neat curd shape, fine and white buds, white, thick and short bud branches, and no fuzz; while the southern market requires varieties with loose curd type, semi-loose curd type, and good taste.

2. Choose seeds according to season

Cauliflower is a seedling vernalization-type crop. It has a wide requirement range for low temperature, and different varieties have different low-temperature requirements for vernalization, so four climate types have formed: spring ecotype, autumn ecotype, spring-autumn dual-purpose type, and overwintering type. Cauliflower growth has relatively high requirements for temperature, light, and fertilizer and water conditions. Especially when planting on a large scale, suitable varieties must be selected according to the local climate, and large-scale cultivation should be carried out only after trial planting first.

3. Choose seeds according to variety adaptability

When cauliflower is cultivated in spring, the temperature is relatively low, so varieties with strong cold tolerance should be selected; while summer has high temperature and much rain, so varieties with strong heat tolerance and moisture tolerance should be selected. During autumn cultivation, the early stage has high temperature and much rain, and diseases and insect pests occur seriously, while in the later stage the temperature drops quickly and the cauliflower growth cycle is relatively short, so when selecting cauliflower varieties in autumn, the standards are relatively strict. Generally, it is advisable to choose varieties with a short growth period and strong heat tolerance, disease resistance, and adaptability. Winter is severely cold, so varieties with strong winterness, low-temperature tolerance, and even tolerance to subzero low temperatures should be selected.
