What should you do if spinach has a low emergence rate after sowing?

General News By Sophie Bennett 0 views
Because a gelatinous layer adheres to the surface of spinach seeds, conventional sowing not only results in slow and uneven emergence, but also gives poor sowing quality, seriously affecting the later growth of spinach. So what methods can make spinach seeds emerge quickly and evenly? Let's take a look.

1. Prepare the solution

After many years of practice, soaking seeds with hydrogen peroxide solution has proven successful and is currently being promoted and used at some vegetable production bases in various places. To soak seeds with hydrogen peroxide solution, you first need to master the preparation of the solution. Hydrogen peroxide solution can be diluted with water at a ratio of 1:4, and after thorough stirring, a 20%-25% hydrogen peroxide solution can be prepared.

2. Soaking time

First, put the prepared hydrogen peroxide solution into a container, then pour the seeds into the container, stirring while pouring so that the seeds can absorb water evenly. The soaking time should be determined according to the temperature. When the temperature is below 20°C, the soaking time needs to be about 100-120 minutes; when the temperature is above 20°C but below 30°C, the soaking time needs to be 60-90 minutes; and when the temperature is above 30°C, soaking for 30-35 minutes is enough.

3. Promoting germination

After soaking, remove the seeds from the solution, rinse them several times with clean water, and after draining off the water, place them in a container and cover them with a damp cloth to promote germination. When the temperature is suitable and the seeds are mature and plump, most plants will generally germinate within a week, and full emergence can be achieved 2-3 days after sowing. In this way, emergence is 6-8 days earlier than with conventional sowing.

4. Precautions

Before soaking seeds with hydrogen peroxide solution, the spinach seeds need to be exposed to the sun on a sunny day for 4-6 hours, while removing debris and plumpness-deficient seeds. In addition, chlorothalonil solution should be used to sterilize the seeds after germination promotion, and the treated seeds should be sown immediately.
