Ornamental pepper, also known as cluster pepper and ornamental chili, is a variety of chili. Its fruits cluster at the top of the branches, and the fruits on the same plant come in many colors such as yellow, red, purple, and green. The growth of ornamental pepper requires sufficient nutrients, so fertilization is essential. So how should ornamental pepper be fertilized? Let's take a look together.

1. Fertilizer Requirements

Ornamental pepper has relatively high nutrient requirements. On average, for every 1000 kg of fruit produced, it needs to consume 4.2 kg of pure nitrogen, 1.1 kg of phosphorus pentoxide, and 6.5 kg of potassium oxide. It also needs an appropriate amount of calcium fertilizer and pepper stem-strengthening agent. Therefore, when planting, fertilization should focus mainly on phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. In the early growth stage, nitrogen fertilizer should be the main focus to promote plant growth and produce more branches, laying the foundation for fruiting. In the later stage, potassium fertilizer should be the main focus to promote fruit expansion and improve yield and quality.

2. Base Fertilizer

Before transplanting, the soil needs to be prepared and fertilized. The soil must be kept loose and breathable to create a suitable environment for the growth and development of the seedling roots after transplanting. Combined with soil preparation, apply 4500 kg of organic fertilizer, 150 kg of bio-organic compound fertilizer, 50 kg of urea, 25 kg of superphosphate, 50 kg of potassium sulfate, and 100 kg of calcium fertilizer per mu. Mix them evenly before applying, then turn them into the soil. Note that direct contact between roots and fertilizer should be avoided to prevent root burn.

3. Seedling-Stage Fertilizer

After the seedling stage, when the first cluster grows to the size of a walnut, carry out the first topdressing, applying 5 kg of pure nitrogen and 6 kg of potassium oxide per mu. At this time, the plant's vegetative growth and reproductive growth advance together, so fertilization should focus mainly on nitrogen and potassium fertilizers to promote branch and leaf growth and fruit expansion, which can significantly increase yield.

4. Harvest Fertilizer

When the first cluster of fruit is about to be harvested, the second layer of fruit and the third layer of fruit continue to expand, and the third layer of fruit is setting fruit after flowering, this is the peak period of fertilizer demand for the plant. The second fertilization should be applied heavily, with 6 kg of pure nitrogen and 7-8 kg of potassium oxide per mu. After that, carry out the third fertilization half a month later, with the same amount as the second. After 15-20 days, apply the fourth fertilizer, with the same amount as the first.
