Learn the latest technical methods and tutorial for spring cabbage seedling raising
Vegetables are an indispensable food in many people's daily lives, and cabbage is also welcomed by many people. As a spring vegetable, cabbage has a very large planting area in our country. When planting cabbage in spring, because the temperature is still relatively low, seedling raising work is very important. So how should spring cabbage be raised as seedlings? Today, the editor brings you the seedling raising technology for spring cabbage. Let's take a look together below!
1. Choose superior varieties
When raising cabbage seedlings in spring, we first need to select good varieties. As just mentioned, the temperature in spring is still relatively low, and late spring cold spells are prone to occur. Therefore, when selecting varieties, we should first focus on seeds with strong cold resistance and strong disease resistance. For example, Chunqiang, Zhonggan No. 21, etc. These varieties all have the advantages of early maturity and high yield. They are very suitable for planting in spring, and choosing high-quality varieties is also the key to ensuring the success of spring cabbage seedling raising, so everyone should pay more attention.
2. Seedbed preparation
After selecting the varieties, we need to prepare the seedbed. The cabbage seedling bed should have sufficient fertility, and the previous crop should not be cabbage, Chinese cabbage, or other vegetables of the same type. New garden soil can be used for seedling raising, and sufficient base fertilizer should also be applied into the seedling bed. The base fertilizer should mainly be decomposed farmyard manure, combined with an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer. Inorganic fertilizer should be evenly spread on the soil and then deeply plowed and raked level to improve soil fertility. If using a sunny seedbed for seedling raising, some plastic film should be covered on the bed surface, and sowing should be carried out after about half a month when the ground temperature gradually rises.
3. Sow at the right time
We should determine the sowing time according to the planting region. For example, when planting in North China, the best sowing time is from December to January of the following year. Usually, solar greenhouses and improved sunny seedbeds are mainly used for seedling raising, and these seedling raising methods are very beneficial to the growth of cabbage seedlings. Then the planting density should be determined according to the variety. If it is an early-maturing variety, then about 4500 plants should be planted per mu, while for medium-maturing varieties, about 500 fewer plants should be planted. Cabbage seeds generally do not need to be pregerminated and can be sown directly as dry seeds. However, the seedling bed should be watered with sufficient bottom water, the seeds should be evenly scattered, and after sowing, a layer of fine soil should be covered to preserve moisture, avoiding water shortage and cracking in the seedling bed.
4. Seedbed management
Before emergence, the temperature should be maintained at around 20 degrees, and generally seedlings will emerge about 5 days after sowing. After emergence, attention should be paid to wind protection, and then the temperature should be lowered to around 15 degrees. If the seedlings grow too densely, thinning should be done to avoid leggy growth. Then when the seedlings grow to about 3 true leaves, they should be transplanted again, and the temperature of the transplanting bed should be kept within 10-20 degrees. Then before field planting in March, the seedlings should be hardened at low temperature, and ventilation can be appropriately increased so that the seedlings can adapt in advance to the field planting environment, promote seedling recovery, and improve the survival rate of the seedlings.
