Latest Technical Methods Tutorial for Winter Management of Button Mushrooms
The button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) is a type of mushroom with a very good flavor and rich nutritional value. The market demand in our country is also very large, and when cultivating button mushrooms, we need to adjust our management methods according to the changes of the seasons. Especially in winter, when the temperature is very low, which is also very unfavorable to the growth of button mushrooms. So how should button mushrooms be managed in winter? Now let's take a look together with the editor at the winter management techniques for button mushrooms!
1. Clean the casing surface
The harvest time of button mushrooms is generally in the autumn of each year. After harvesting the button mushrooms in autumn, the first thing we need to do well is to clean the mushroom bed surface thoroughly. The main task is to remove the dead mushrooms, old mycelial clumps, and some shriveled, yellowed old mycelium that has lost its use value from the bed surface. This is because these things carry a very large amount of contaminating microorganisms, and if they are not cleaned up in time, then when the environment becomes suitable in the spring of the following year, these contaminating microorganisms will cause great harm to the growth of button mushrooms, affecting yield and quality, so everyone must pay close attention to this.
2. Ventilate in time
After the autumn mushrooms have gone through about two months of moisture retention and mushroom forcing, the humidity in the mushroom house will be relatively high. In particular, the water content of the compost and the casing soil is also very high. Therefore, after cleaning the casing surface, we should immediately open the doors and windows of the mushroom house to ventilate it. Then poke several holes in the casing surface to promote the discharge of water and waste gases from the compost. This allows the mycelium to resume growth as quickly as possible, and at the same time can maintain the air quality in the room. Usually, ventilate for about two hours at noon each day. If the temperature is relatively low, then ventilation should be stopped, and the indoor temperature should be kept at around 3-4°C.
3. Fertilize appropriately
In winter, we also need to apply appropriate fertilizer to the mushroom bed to supplement the nutrients needed for growth. The fertilizer can be a mixture of livestock manure and substances such as superphosphate. Then boil it, and after it cools, spray it onto the mushroom bed. In addition, the pH value of the soil in the mushroom bed should be kept at around 7-7.5. For the mycelium exposed on the bed surface, fine soil should be used to cover it. Then we should also pay attention to doing a good job of loosening the soil and removing roots. For mushroom beds where the mycelium is growing well, the aeration should be improved. Remove the old mycelial roots and dead mushrooms without injuring the mycelium, and then level the soil.
⟦NL>4. Water management
In winter, although the temperature is relatively low, the climate is rather dry. Therefore, we also need to spray an appropriate amount of water onto the bed surface to maintain the humidity inside the mushroom bed. When spraying water, you can combine it with spraying some micro-fertilizers, and at the same time pay attention to the amount of water sprayed. Do not spray too much, because if there is too much, the soil surface will have high humidity and is prone to freezing, which will affect the growth of button mushrooms. Then after finishing the treatment, all doors and windows should be closed. If there is frost or snowy weather, then straw should also be spread over the outside of the doors and windows for coverage.
