How to manage the fruiting period of button mushrooms? These key points must be mastered
The button mushroom is one of the common edible fungi in our daily lives, deeply loved by people, with a broad market and many growers. During the cultivation process, the management of the button mushroom fruiting period is extremely important, as it relates to the yield and quality of button mushrooms. So how should the button mushroom fruiting period be managed well? Let's take a look together.
1. Water management
Water management in edible fungi production is very important. Adjusting water in the casing soil layer is a crucial technical step in water management, and two management methods can be adopted. The first is the spray method, which makes the casing soil layer not soaked through but moistened through, so that within 1-2 days the casing soil layer reaches its maximum water-holding capacity. This method has little effect on the mycelium and is suitable for clay soils. The second is heavy watering to set mushrooms, using the pouring method, giving enough water at once. This method can effectively stimulate the rapid transformation of mycelium from vegetative growth to reproductive growth, and is suitable for casing materials with good physical and chemical properties.
2. Temperature management
During the button mushroom fruiting period, the temperature in the shed needs to be maintained between 11-20 degrees, which is the optimal suitable growth temperature for the fruiting bodies, and almost no regulation is needed for normal growth. As the temperature drops, insulation measures should be strengthened, and regulation can be carried out by covering with insulating film and ventilating at noon. In recent years, some farmers have adopted methods such as burning a fire wall and earthen heating, with quite good results. In low-temperature seasons, it only needs to be kept above 8 degrees to satisfy the normal growth and development of the fruiting bodies.
3. Ventilation management
How effective the ventilation is in the mushroom shed directly relates to the later yield and quality. Many farmers often value temperature and water management but neglect ventilation management. Besides the treatment of the mycelium and fruiting body growth needs, ventilation in the mushroom shed can also promptly discharge and dilute carbon dioxide and carry excess water out of the shed, which is very important especially when the humidity inside the shed is too high. In addition, good ventilation can also prevent the occurrence of certain diseases. Generally, the carbon dioxide concentration in the shed is required to be around 0.05%, and should not exceed 0.1%.
4. Light management
The biggest characteristic of the button mushroom is that during the fruiting body growth stage, it can basically grow normally without light, but under weak light conditions, its growth and development will not be hindered. Therefore, in production, the mushroom shed can be tightly covered, and only when entering to work should the corners or ventilation holes be opened. When conditions permit, lights can be turned on for illumination, and turned off when people leave.
