Lettuce is a very common vegetable in our daily lives, and its planting area in our country is very large. Its market demand is also relatively large. When growing lettuce, the work of raising seedlings is very important. Reasonable seedling raising is a key measure to ensure the healthy growth of lettuce, so everyone must pay close attention to it. So how should lettuce be raised as seedlings? Below, the editor brings you the seedling raising techniques for lettuce. Let's take a look together!

1. Seedbed selection

When raising lettuce seedlings, we first need to choose the seedling bed well. The growth of lettuce has very high requirements for the seedling bed. It should be on sandy loam soil that is shady, well-aerated, has not previously been used to grow leafy green vegetables, and is free of pests and diseases. When raising seedlings, we should carry out plowing and sun-drying of the soil about seven days in advance to increase the application amount of organic fertilizer and increase the fertility of the seedling bed. However, care should be taken to control the application amount of organic fertilizer and not use too much, to prevent fertilizer damage. After applying the base fertilizer, the fertilizer should be fully mixed with the soil to ensure soil fertility.

Then make the seedling bed into beds, with the width kept at about 1 m and the height controlled at about 20 cm. Around the seedling bed, attention should also be paid to digging drainage ditches, and the width of the drainage ditches should be kept at about 28 cm. After leveling and finely raking the seedling bed, spread a layer of about 3 cm of decomposed nutrient soil on top and level the bed surface. Then also do a good job of sterilization and pest elimination, and appropriately spray chemicals to treat the seedling bed. The chemicals can use trichlorfon, thiophanate-methyl, and other agents to ensure the disinfection effect and promote the healthy growth of lettuce.

2. Seed treatment

Then we should also pay attention to doing a good job in treating lettuce seeds. Before sowing, the seeds should first be subjected to low-temperature soaking and germination acceleration. The main purpose is to break the seed dormancy period. The seeds should first be soaked in cool water for about 5 hours. Then wrap them well in wet gauze and treat them at a temperature of about 5 degrees for about one day. Then take them out and place them at 20 degrees for light-exposed germination acceleration. During the germination acceleration process, pour cool water on the seeds about twice a day. After about 3 days, when more than 80% of the seeds have cracked and sprouted, they can be sown.

3. Timely sowing

For cultivating autumn lettuce, its growth period is about three months, and the sowing period should be in July-August. When sowing, attention should be paid to pouring sufficient bottom water, and then evenly scattering the treated seeds on the cooled seedling bed. The seeds should be evenly mixed with fine sand, mainly for sparse sowing. After sowing, attention should also be paid to covering with about 0.5 cm of nutrient soil, and at the same time attention should be paid to doing a good job of shading and light blocking. When the lettuce seedlings grow about two true leaves, thinning can be carried out, with the seedling spacing kept at about 5 cm. When about 4-5 leaves have grown, transplanting can begin.

The above is a brief introduction to lettuce seedling raising techniques. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only, and I hope it can help everyone!
