The high temperature and high humidity in summer create favorable conditions for pest reproduction, making it a season of frequent pest reproduction and damage, so special attention must be paid to preventing pest damage to rice during this season. The following are several methods for preventing pests in rice:

Fumigation insecticidal method

1. Use aluminum phosphide fumigation to kill insects. If the amount of infested rice is relatively large, use a grain-specific aluminum phosphide fumigation insecticide for insecticidal treatment, which can completely eliminate the pests.

2. Use zinc phosphide plus acetic acid for fumigation. On a balcony or in an unused room (be careful to keep it away from people and livestock), place the infested rice together with the bag into a well-sealed plastic bag, then place a cup or bowl inside the bag with 50 grams of vinegar; if the grain does not exceed 500 kilograms, wrap 1 gram of zinc phosphide in paper and put it into the cup or bowl containing the vinegar, without stirring, and immediately seal the bag opening for fumigation. After sealing for 5-10 days, all the pests inside can be killed. Then ventilate for 3 days, remove the vinegar water and residue and dispose of them, and the rice can be eaten normally after ventilation.

Sun-drying method

In summer, first let a concrete drying platform heat up to above 50°C under the sun, then spread the infested rice thinly on the platform for sun-drying; the pests and eggs die quickly under high temperature. However, after sun-drying, the broken rice rate of the rice increases greatly and the taste is poor.

Re-milling and sieving method

Use a rice milling machine to re-mill and sieve the infested rice, which can remove all pests on the surface of the rice grains as well as some pests and eggs inside the grains. Within two to three months, it can effectively prevent pest damage to the rice. This is the safest and most environmentally friendly method among the above methods.
