Wheat Cultivation Technique Tutorial: Detailed Explanation of the Latest Planting Methods
Deep plowing and fine harrowing, apply sufficient base fertilizer
For a field with a general yield of 400 kg per mu, apply about 10000 jin of farmyard manure, 20-50 kg of ammonium bicarbonate, and about 50 jin of dipotassium phosphate. Experts say: “One must not neglect soil fertilizer in favor of chemical fertilizers, neglect base fertilizer in favor of topdressing, or neglect phosphate fertilizer in favor of nitrogen fertilizer. Phosphate fertilizer can promote early maturity and control ineffective tillering. On the basis of deep plowing and fertilizing, harrow and level the soil; harrowing breaks large clods into smaller ones, and leveling breaks the clods into fine pieces.” In order to eliminate underground pests (white grubs, wireworms, cutworms, etc.), soil disinfection should be carried out along with land preparation; generally methyl powder is used, 2-3 jin per mu.
Select good quality seed, treat seed with chemicals
Choose wheat varieties suitable for planting in the local area. Before sowing, the seed should be sun-dried to increase enzyme activity and improve the germination rate. For seed that has not been coated, chemical seed treatment should be carried out; generally, for 100 jin of seed, mix 3 liang of 75% 3911 emulsifiable concentrate or 2 liang of 50% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate with 7-8 jin of water, pile it in the shade for 6 hours, and then sow.
Sow at the right time, plant at a reasonable density
How can the suitable sowing period be determined? This depends on the variety, the temperature, and the soil fertility. Looking at the variety, winter varieties come first and spring varieties later, according to the variety description; fewer-leaf varieties come first and more-leaf varieties later. Looking at the temperature, for winter varieties an average daily temperature of about 16°C is suitable. Looking at soil fertility, poor land comes first and fertile land later. “Sow on high mountains at White Dew, sow on the plateau at Autumn Equinox, and 10 days after Autumn Equinox sow on the plains.” Within the suitable sowing period, make full use of the time and shorten the sowing period. Reasonable close planting means controlling a reasonable population structure, properly handling the contradiction between the population and the individual and the contradiction between more ears and larger ears, and fully utilizing soil fertility and light energy to achieve high and stable yields. The sowing rate should be determined according to the requirements in the wheat variety description and the sowing time and soil fertility conditions.
