Wheat is a grass-family plant widely grown around the world, also known as bran wheat, floating wheat, wheat grain, etc. Together with rice and corn, it is known as one of the "three major grains." It is almost entirely used as food; after being milled into flour, it can be made into bread, steamed buns, biscuits, noodles and other foods, and it is widely cultivated around the world.

Wheat is a grass-family plant widely grown around the world, also known as bran wheat, floating wheat, wheat grain, etc. Together with rice and corn, it is known as the “three major grains.” It is almost entirely used as food; after being milled into flour, it can be made into bread, steamed buns, biscuits, noodles and other foods, and it is commonly cultivated around the world. Now let us take a look at wheat seed prices and planting methods!

How much do wheat seeds cost?

Variety Name Packaging Specification Reference Price Variety Characteristics
Nongda 876 1 jin/piece 5-7 yuan/piece Winter type, mid-early maturing, strong cold resistance, good lodging resistance
Aikang 58 1 jin/piece 4-8 yuan/piece Semi-winter type, mid-maturing, highly resistant to powdery mildew, stripe rust and leaf blight
Zhongmai No. 9 1 jin/piece 3-4 yuan/piece Winter type, mid-early maturing, moderate cold resistance, moderately resistant to powdery mildew
Liaochun No. 18 1 jin/piece 4-5 yuan/piece Spring type, early maturing, relatively good lodging resistance, highly resistant to stem rust

Note: Wheat is one of humanity's staple foods, and its seed price is generally around 3-5 yuan per jin, but it varies depending on the seed variety, quality, place of origin and so on. The above prices are for reference only; please take actual prices as the standard.

Wheat Sowing Methods

1. Apply sufficient base fertilizer: The principle is, on the basis of increasing organic fertilizer application, to stabilize nitrogen, increase phosphorus, supplement potassium and micronutrients. Generally, apply 1000-2000 kg of organic fertilizer per mu, about 40 kg of formula fertilizer and 1 kg of zinc sulfate, spreading them evenly before land preparation and promptly plowing them deep into the soil.

2. Fine land preparation: The quality of land preparation directly affects sowing quality. After 3 years or more, deep plowing must be carried out once. During land preparation, the soil should be harrowed until broken up and thoroughly penetrated, so that the plow layer is uniform in depth, the surface soil is finely broken up, the top is loose and the bottom is firm, the ground is level and there are no root stubble remnants.

3. Seed treatment: A higher-quality seed coating agent or a single agent for seed dressing may be selected. For disease control with a single agent, diniconazole, duofuton or carbendazim can be used for seed dressing at 0.2% of the seed weight; for control of underground pests, 3911 or phoxim can be used for seed dressing at 1.5% of the seed weight.

4. Sow at the appropriate time: The suitable sowing period is October 5-13, with a sowing depth of 4-5 cm. For late-sown plots, appropriately increase the sowing rate. The average row spacing is 22.5 cm. After sowing, press with a stone roller to compact and preserve soil moisture, which helps wheat emerge. For plots with straw returned to the field, increase the sowing rate by 1.5 kg.

Wheat Cultivation Methods

1. Irrigation and weeding: To prevent gaps in the stand and ensure that wheat overwinters safely, irrigate promptly so that wheat forms strong roots. To achieve a better weed control effect, chemical weeding can be carried out from mid-January to late February.

2. Scientific fertilization: From mid-February to the end of February and from mid-to-late March, apply chemical fertilizer at 75-120 and 120-150 kg/hectare respectively to promote wheat greening and jointing and increase the wheat tillering rate.

3. Preventing lodging: Wheat lodging is mainly caused by a relatively large amount of nitrogen fertilizer applied early on, resulting in an overly large population, a closed canopy in the field, poor ventilation and light penetration, excessive vegetative growth, overly long basal internodes, and lodging when strong winds occur later.

4. Disease and pest control: During the heading and flowering stage of wheat, to control wheat aphids, wheat midges, armyworms, rust, powdery mildew and scab, prolong the wheat growth period and increase yield, insecticides can be sprayed, used continuously 1-2 times.

5. Harvest at the right time: Generally, wheat basically matures in early to mid-June, and it is harvested when 2/3 of the wheat ears in the entire field turn yellow, but it should not be over-mature, lest the grains shatter and reduce the harvest. Different varieties should be harvested, dried and stored separately to avoid variety mixing.
