I believe anyone who has experience growing garlic has encountered the phenomenon of garlic yellowing, especially in recent years, due to the influence of various factors in production, the phenomenon of garlic yellowing has been particularly prominent, leading to reduced garlic yield and seriously reduced quality of the harvested garlic. Currently it is the garlic planting period, and what causes garlic yellowing and how to prevent garlic yellowing have become key concerns for many farmers.

When garlic turns yellow, the main causes are improper fertilizer and water management, soil acidification and so on. But in fact, garlic yellowing is more likely caused by damage from pests and diseases, especially root-knot nematode disease, which has been particularly severe in recent years. Root-knot nematode disease is caused by nematodes infecting crops. Root-knot nematodes harm a wide variety of crops, including fruit trees, cucurbits, solanaceous and fruiting vegetables, legumes and other crops, all of which are affected by nematodes, and garlic is no exception.

According to experts, in recent years, with the adjustment and upgrading of China's agricultural structure, plus the influence of traditional planting models and limited arable land and other factors, the multiple cropping index of crops has generally been rather high. In some plots, vegetables, cucurbits and other host plants of nematodes have been grown for a long time, and root-knot nematode disease damage is severe, leaving more sources of nematodes in the soil. Garlic is often rotated or intercropped with these host plants, which leads to the occurrence of garlic root-knot nematode disease, and it is even more severe in greenhouses, plastic tunnels and protected cultivation. According to observations, when the second-stage juveniles of garlic root-knot nematodes harm garlic, they pierce the young parts of the fibrous roots (root tips) with their sharp mouthparts. The root knots hinder the root system's absorption of nutrients and water, and root growth is blocked, often resulting in no new roots growing. The symptoms of affected plants above ground are not obvious in the early stage of damage, but as the disease develops, they gradually show weakened growth, pale yellow-green leaves, and spreading leaves, similar to the symptoms of water and fertilizer deficiency. As the disease develops, the affected plants gradually turn yellow, wilt, and even wither and die.

It can be seen that preventing garlic yellowing is inseparable from the control of garlic root-knot nematodes. Experts say that controlling root-knot nematodes requires emphasizing prevention over treatment, with prevention as the main approach. Preventive measures can adopt agricultural and physical control methods, while killing root-knot nematodes requires the combination of chemical agents to achieve the best control effect. In the choice of pesticides, farmers can use Yinghui nematicides. It is understood that Yinghui nematicides include Ligensha, Yinghui Kuaixian, Tiandixian and other products. Aimed at different growth stages of garlic, they offer two dosage forms, granules and liquid formulations, and can be used at different growth stages of garlic, with quite outstanding control effects. Farmers can apply Yinghui nematicide granules by furrow application, hole application or broadcasting over the whole field before garlic transplanting, with a duration of up to 2-3 months; if garlic is harmed by root-knot nematodes during the growth period, Yinghui nematicide liquid formulation can be diluted with water for root drenching or flushing application.

Compared with the effects of uncontrollable factors such as drought and flood disasters and extreme weather, the control of controllable disasters such as pests and diseases is more important for farmers and can also be prevented more effectively through artificial means.
