You may not have eaten cassava, but you are certainly familiar with cassava flour. The bread and other foods we eat every day contain a great deal of cassava flour, and cassava is mainly used as the primary raw material for various industrial starches. At present, the cassava planting area is relatively large, but there are still some people who do not know how to manage it. Cassava has different management methods at each growth stage, so today the editor brings you the management methods for the different growth stages of cassava. Let's take a look below!

1. Seedling stage management

Cassava is relatively fragile during the seedling stage. When the surrounding temperature is 20°C or above, cassava can generally sprout and emerge in about a week. The two months after emergence are the period of the most vigorous root growth for cassava, but the plant's growth capacity decreases during this period. The nutrients for seedling growth are mostly provided by nutrients stored in the stem, and root growth and rooting also require a certain amount of nutrients. Therefore, during the seedling stage, it is necessary not only to control the temperature well, but also to increase fertilizer supply to promote seedling growth and prevent planting failure caused by insufficient nutrients.

2. Storage root formation stage

The storage root formation stage is generally about 2-3 months after planting. This period is also the vigorous growth period of cassava, and the number of tubers formed increases greatly. After 3 months, the storage root growth of cassava has basically taken shape, and each plant generally has about 7 storage roots. The growth rate of stems and leaves accelerates, and branching also begins to appear at the top. Storage root formation is greatly related to soil fertility and the surrounding environment. When the soil is fertile, loose and deep, and the humidity is normal, it is beneficial to storage root formation. If the soil is compacted, it will affect the tuber formation and quality of the storage roots.

3. Storage root enlargement stage

After the storage root formation stage comes the storage root enlargement stage. The storage root enlargement stage is the most important period in the cassava growth stage. This is because at this time the cassava's stems and leaves have strong growth capacity, the number of new leaves is extremely large, and the demand for nutrients is also greatly increased. To meet the nutrient demand during the enlargement stage, if there are insufficient nutrients, the enlargement of the storage roots will be hindered, which has a very large impact on quality. After the enlargement stage, the old leaves will gradually fall off automatically, and then the enlargement of the tubers will gradually be completed. When the leaves have all fallen, the storage root enlargement stage also gradually ends.

4. Tuber maturity stage

After the enlargement stage naturally comes the maturity stage. The maturity stage of cassava is usually around 10 months. After normal and reasonable planting management in the earlier stages, the storage roots have already fully enlarged and matured. The aboveground plant will also gradually stop growing, and physiological leaf fall will occur. The growth of the tubers gradually ends, and moisture slowly evaporates. At this time, we should harvest in a timely manner to prevent excessive growth from causing all the moisture in the tubers to be lost and affecting quality. Pay attention to the force used during harvesting, otherwise violent harvesting will cause mechanical wounds on the tubers, making them impossible to store.
