Corn is an important food crop for us. Corn cultivation can be divided into spring corn and autumn corn, and now is exactly the time for spring plowing, so spring-sown corn is also a period that farmers are relatively concerned about. So when is the suitable time for spring sowing of corn? What should be noted? Let's take a look at the detailed introduction together.

1. Spring sowing time

Corn seeds begin to germinate at 6-7 degrees, but the germination speed is relatively slow, and they are also highly susceptible to damage from pathogens and pests, so sowing generally begins when the soil temperature at 5-8 cm below the surface is 8-10 degrees. In spring, the temperature rises relatively quickly, and the optimal sowing time is only about 10-15 days, so sowing must be done at the right time. Sowing too late may cause the seedlings to remain green and mature late, and encounter low temperatures that reduce yield. In general areas, the corn sowing time is from mid-to-late April to early-to-mid May.

2. Sowing depth

When sowing, pay attention to the sowing depth. Whether by manual sowing or mechanical sowing, the sowing depth is required to be between 3-5 cm. If the soil moisture condition is good, the sowing depth only needs to be 3 cm. If it is sown too deep, the seedlings will emerge relatively slowly, and because they consume a large amount of nutrients when emerging, the seedlings will be weak, so the sowing depth must be properly controlled.

3. Water in time

After sowing, water appropriately. After watering, water must not accumulate in large amounts on the soil surface. Too much watering can easily form standing water in the field, which will cause the seedlings to emerge slowly, and after emergence the seedlings will also turn yellow; in severe cases, it will cause a large number of missing seedlings. Therefore, watering must be appropriate. Flood irrigation is not suitable, and the amount of water per watering should not be too much. Keeping the soil moist is enough. If there is rainy weather after sowing and before seedling emergence, drainage measures should be taken to avoid standing water in the field.

4. Uniform sowing

When sowing, sowing should be uniform and consistent, so as to avoid uneven emergence in each row. Some rows grow sparsely, wasting plot space, while some rows grow densely, and the seedlings compete with each other for water and fertilizer and grow thin and weak. Therefore, sowing must be uniform. Under the condition of not wasting land resources, appropriately dense planting ensures that the seedlings grow robustly.
