As people's living standards improve, they are becoming more and more particular about food, and grains are becoming more and more refined. Rye is one of those grains, a treasured variety of wheat. So how should rye be planted? Let's take a look together with the editor below.

1. Land preparation

Rye does not have high soil requirements. It can grow normally even in relatively poor, slightly acidic soil, but the yield is lower. It is suitable for planting in neutral, well-drained fertile loam. Rye seeds are small and light, so the land must be finely cultivated during preparation. The seedbed surface is required to be level, with no clods of soil, and drainage ditches should be opened well around it so that there is no standing water in the field, keeping the soil moist without drowning the seedlings.

2. Sowing

It can be sown in spring or autumn. Under normal circumstances, autumn sowing is used. The suitable sowing period is from September to October. Generally, the earlier the sowing, the higher the yield. The sowing method is generally broadcast sowing or drilling. The seeding rate is about 1.5-2 kg per mu. The seeds can be mixed with calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer before sowing, but if there is drought and the soil is dry, irrigation should be done in time to avoid affecting emergence. Before sowing, it is recommended to sun the seeds for 1 hour, then soak them in warm water for 12 hours before sowing. This can significantly increase the speed of emergence and the emergence rate.

3. Cultivation and weeding

During the seedling stage, attention should be paid to weeding. The earlier the sowing time, the more vigorously the weeds grow, so weeding must be done well. For sowing in late October, there are generally very few weeds. Weeding can be carried out in three steps: before sowing, spray glyphosate on the soil, which can effectively remove weeds; after sowing and before emergence, apply glyphosate once more; and during the seedling stage, the weeds are generally mainly broadleaf weeds, so manual pulling can be used to remove them. During the vigorous growth period, rye has a strong inhibitory effect on weeds, so no weeding is needed. When weeding, it can be combined with cultivation to loosen the soil and promote root development, but in the early stage, cultivation should not be too deep to avoid damaging the roots.

4. Fertilizer and water management

Rye is relatively sensitive to fertilizer and water, and likes nitrogen. The more fertile the soil, the more obvious its yield-increasing effect. At sowing, about 3000 kg of organic fertilizer per mu is required as a base application. At sowing, the seeds are mixed with 20 kg of calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer. After each harvest, nitrogen fertilizer should be applied in time as a top dressing, and the yield-increasing effect is obvious. It is also relatively sensitive to water. Water appropriately at the tillering, stem elongation, and booting stages. In case of drought, irrigate in time to keep the soil moist, and the yield-increasing effect is obvious.
