Mung bean ring spot disease not only infects mung bean, but also harms adzuki bean, common bean, broad bean and others, causing brown spot disease outbreaks. It mainly damages leaves, preventing the leaves from functioning normally, and has a relatively large impact on yield. So how should mung bean ring spot disease be prevented and controlled? Let's take a look together.

1. Symptoms

Mung bean ring spot disease mainly damages leaves. Infection can occur once seedlings emerge, but it occurs more often in the later stages. When leaves are infected, brown circular lesions first appear, with reddish-brown edges. Distinct concentric rings appear on the lesions, and later many small brown dots, namely pycnidia, appear on the lesions. The lesions break apart very easily when dry. In severe cases, the disease causes early leaf drop, affecting pod set, and individual plots suffer severe damage.

2. Occurrence pattern

The pathogen of ring spot disease overwinters or oversummers as mycelium and pycnidia in diseased parts or in the soil with diseased residues. The conidia spread by rain splash and cause primary infection. After parasitizing the plant, they multiply rapidly and, after forming pycnidia, spread again. Warm, humid temperatures, or excessive planting density with high humidity between plants, all favor the occurrence of this disease. Plants with excessive nitrogen fertilizer and overly vigorous growth, or plants lacking fertilizer and growing weakly, will both experience reduced disease resistance, leading to more severe disease later.

3. Control methods

Mung bean ring spot disease can infect plants once seedlings emerge, so agricultural control should be done well. After harvest, the field must be thoroughly cleaned, and weeds and diseased residues should be gathered and burned to reduce the pathogen base. Before sowing, deep plow the soil, eliminate underground pests, and apply quicklime once to achieve disinfection and sterilization, reducing the incidence rate as much as possible. In the early stage of disease, spray 200 times Bordeaux mixture, or 500 times Keshade, or 500 times basic copper sulfate, spraying once every 7-10 days, for 2-3 consecutive treatments.
