Walnut trees love sunlight, tolerate cold, and have strong drought and disease resistance. They adapt to a wide range of soils and prefer fertile, moist sandy loam. They like water, nutrients and sun, yet are not demanding about water and fertilizer. From leaf fall until bud break, pruning should be avoided, as it easily causes sap bleeding. They are suitable for growing in most soils.
