Where do hazelnuts come from? A look at the latest main producing regions
The hazel tree is a nut tree species in the birch family, genus Corylus. There are about 20 species worldwide, widely distributed in the temperate regions of Asia, Europe and North America. Nine species have been confirmed by academia, namely the American hazelnut, European hazelnut, Turkish hazelnut, etc., but the only one with real edible value is the European hazelnut, and China has 8 species and 2 varieties growing naturally.
In China, hazelnut producing regions are mainly distributed in the mountainous areas of the three northeastern provinces, the provinces of North China, the Hengduan Mountains in the southwest, and Gansu, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia in the northwest.
Note: Hazelnuts should not be eaten after being stored for a long time. Hazelnuts are rich in oils, so people with seriously poor gallbladder function should eat them with caution, and it is best to eat 20 nuts at a time.
