How to Plant Yellow Peach Saplings? A Detailed Guide to the Latest Planting Methods

General News By Sophie Bennett 0 views
Yellow peach saplings are nursery stock of the yellow-fleshed peach type. They are grafted saplings, produced by grafting onto peach seedling rootstock. The yellow peach originated in China, and many yellow peach cultivars are grown in our country, so yellow peach saplings can be divided into saplings of fresh-eating yellow peaches such as Fenghuang saplings and Jinhuang saplings, saplings of processing yellow peaches such as Guan 83 saplings, 19 peach saplings and the Jintong series saplings, and saplings of yellow peaches for both fresh eating and processing such as Jinxiu yellow peach saplings and Huangjinguan peach saplings. The main production areas for yellow peach saplings in China are Wutai Town in Pingyi County, Shandong Province, Yuncheng in Shanxi and Dalian in Liaoning, with Wutai Town in Pingyi County being the most common. Let us now take a look at the market prices and planting methods of yellow peach saplings!

Raising Yellow Peach Saplings

For a yellow peach nursery, choose a loose, fertile sandy loam plot with convenient drainage and irrigation, and never use land that has grown peaches before. For peach seed, use wild peach or small mountain peach collected in the same year. Sowing can be divided into autumn sowing and spring sowing. For autumn sowing, sow before the soil freezes; soak the sun-dried peach seeds in clean water for 48 hours and then sow directly. For spring sowing, the seeds should undergo sand storage treatment before the freeze to break dormancy before sowing. Sand storage method: soak the peach pits in cold water for 48 hours, take clean river sand and moisten it with water, with the ideal moisture being when a handful held in the hand forms a ball that breaks apart as soon as it is touched after release. Mix 1 part seeds with 3 parts wet sand, open a trench in the open ground in a shaded place, with a trench depth of 60-70 cm, and the length and width depending on the amount of seed. First spread a 10 cm thick layer of wet sand on the bottom of the trench, then place the seed mixed with sand on top, piling it up until it is 10 cm below the ground surface, then spread a 10 cm thick layer of wet sand on top, and finally cover with 15 cm of soil. Sow in late March, two rows per ridge, at about 30,000 seeds per mu, and strengthen fertilizer and water management in between to promote plant growth.

Grafting Methods for Yellow Peach Saplings

Saplings that have not been grafted are called seedling saplings or wild saplings. Yellow peach saplings must be grafted, and grafting yellow peach saplings falls into two types: 1. Finished saplings: in early June, when the seedling saplings have grown to a height of about 60 cm, graft using the “T”-shaped bark budding method. Select scions from yellow peach cultivars with excellent overall traits. The grafted saplings can grow to about 1 cm in diameter by autumn and can leave the nursery the same year. 2. Bud saplings: also called semi-finished saplings or autumn buds, usually grafted in mid-to-late August using “T”-shaped budding or bark-peeling patch grafting. The grafted peach buds do not sprout again that year; in the following spring, cut off 1 cm above the grafted bud to produce large yellow peach saplings.

Planting Methods for Yellow Peach Saplings

Yellow peach saplings are planted from November to before March of the following year, mainly in autumn, after the peach saplings have dropped their leaves and before the soil completely freezes, so that the saplings recover quickly in the following spring and the survival rate is high. Traditional planting generally uses a spacing of 3 m × 4 m, planting 55 plants per mu. The dense planting method of the Daxing Fruit Professional Cooperative in Pingyi County, Shandong Province, uses a spacing of 1 m × 3 m, planting about 220 plants per mu, with a single-trunk spindle tree shape, which is simple to manage and saves labor, comes into production early and yields well, and is more suitable for large-scale development.
