Where is the Shatian pomelo produced?
The Shatian pomelo is a local specialty of Rong County in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Because it was first planted in Shatian Village, Rong County, Guangxi, it is called the Shatian pomelo. As early as the 1930s it was exported to places such as Hong Kong, China, the South Seas, Europe and the Americas. It has now been expanded to the Xunjiang, Longjiang, Guijiang, Lijiang and Hongshui River basins in Guangxi and other places, and Guangdong, Hunan, Sichuan, Zhejiang and Jiangxi have also successively introduced it. In 2013 Guangxi had already become the largest concentrated producing area of Shatian pomelo in China, with a planting area of several hundred thousand mu across the autonomous region.
The producing area environment of the Shatian pomelo
The Shatian pomelo has relatively large fertilizer and water requirements, so sufficient fertilizer and water is an important condition that must first be considered in developing Shatian pomelo. A site with deep, loose, fertile soil and sufficient water sources must be chosen for establishing an orchard. For hilly land, a gentle slope with a gradient below 20 degrees facing south with its back to the north should be chosen, and there should be water-source forest at the top of the hill. Any place where citrus can be grown can grow Shatian pomelo.
