How to ripen fresh green bananas? Here are a few practical methods
Bananas are sweet and tasty with thick flesh, and most people like to eat them, but when buying bananas in the market, many bananas are not ripe at all and their skins are still green. At this point you need to ripen the green bananas yourself before eating them, but some people do not know how to ripen green bananas and can only store them for a long time after buying them to let them ripen naturally. Let us take a look below at how to ripen green bananas!
Incense smoke ripening method
Green bananas can be ripened with large incense sticks. This method was often used in the past, and the method is also very simple: put a large number of green bananas in a small room, then light large incense sticks inside, and when the smoke inside reaches a certain concentration, close the doors and windows tightly. After two days, take the bananas out, and in about five days the bananas will be fully ripe.
Ethephon ripening
Using ethephon to ripen green bananas is also a common method. This ethephon is a low-toxicity drug. After placing the bananas, you just spray the ethephon on them. After spraying, cover the bananas well with plastic sheeting, remove the plastic sheeting after one day, and then wait about two more days, and the bananas will be successfully ripened.
Ethylene gas method
Green bananas can be ripened with ethylene gas in a sealed ripening room. The concentration of ethylene is 200 to 500 ppm. With ethylene ripening, packaged banana fruits can be ripened in the ripening room in their original packaging, saving labor. This is the method used by large foreign ripening rooms. However, when the ethylene concentration in the air reaches about 3%, explosions are likely to occur, so safety must be noted during operation.
Home ripening method
The above methods for ripening green bananas are usually used when there is a large quantity of green bananas and are not suitable for use at home. When you have bought bananas at home and want to ripen them, the best method is to put the bananas in a plastic bag after buying them, then add two apples or pears, then tie the opening tightly and place it near a heater. After two or three days, the bananas will naturally be fully ripe, and you can take them out to eat.
