Strawberry is a perennial herbaceous plant of the genus Fragaria in the rose family (Rosaceae), with stems lower than or nearly equal to the leaves, densely covered with spreading yellow soft hairs, flowers in cymes, and fruit as an aggregate fruit. It is widely cultivated throughout China, is rich in nutrients, contains a variety of nutritional substances and has health benefits, and has extremely high cultivation value. Let us take a look below at what fertilizer is best for strawberries!

Do strawberries need a lot of fertilizer?

Strawberries bloom and bear fruit continuously. From planting to flowering and fruiting they need a fairly large amount of fertilizer. Besides applying sufficient base fertilizer, fertilizer must also be supplemented in good time. During the fruit enlargement stage and the beginning of harvest, apply 10 kg per mu of strawberry-specific fertilizer or diammonium phosphate. Combined with watering, applying it in trenches as a 200-fold liquid fertilizer gives better results. For fields with good growth, spraying only 0.1-0.2% monopotassium phosphate 2-3 times also has a certain yield-increasing effect; in principle, do not spray during the flowering stage. The fertilization principle for fruit-harvesting fields is adequate N, heavy P and K, and a reasonable ratio must be maintained to obtain higher yield and maximum benefit.

What fertilizer is best for strawberries?

1. Nitrogen fertilizer: Nitrogen fertilizer can promote the vigorous growth of strawberry seedlings. Moldy and insect-damaged beans, peanuts, sunflower seeds and the like that can no longer be eaten are all very good nitrogen fertilizer materials.

2. Phosphorus fertilizer: Phosphorus fertilizer can make strawberries brightly colored, glossy and plump. Fish bones, eggshells, meat bones and the like all contain very rich phosphorus.

3. Potassium fertilizer: Potassium fertilizer can improve the ability of strawberries to resist pests and diseases. Water from washing rice, leftover tea water, water from rinsing milk bottles and the like are all very good potassium fertilizer materials.

How should strawberries be fertilized?

1. Base fertilizer: Before planting strawberries, plow the soil deep to 25-35 cm, and in combination with plowing, apply per mu 450-500 kg of commercial organic fertilizer or 3500-4000 kg of high-quality farmyard manure, 5-6 kg of urea, 15-20 kg of diammonium phosphate, and 5-6 kg of potassium sulfate.

2. Topdressing: From when strawberries begin to grow until before the flowering stage, apply per mu 9-10 kg of urea and 4-6 kg of potassium sulfate; during the berry enlargement stage, apply per mu 11-13 kg of urea and 7-8 kg of potassium sulfate; after heavy fruiting, topdress as needed.

3. Foliar fertilizer: Spraying humic acid organic-inorganic liquid compound fertilizer on the leaves before and after the flowering stage of strawberries can increase the fruit-setting rate, improve fruit quality and increase single fruit weight. Spraying 0.2% calcium sulfate plus 0.05% manganese sulfate at the early flowering stage and full flowering stage can increase yield and fruit storage performance.
