How to grow Luhe Red peony? Cultivation methods and precautions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
This is a very common and gorgeously colored peony variety. Although this variety grows relatively slowly, its flowering period lasts as long as 5 months. It is a very popular garden flower variety, with large and brilliantly colored flowers and a dignified, graceful flower posture. Let's learn about the planting methods and precautions for Luhe Red below.

I. Cultivation methods:

1. Sunlight

Luhe Red is inherently afraid of direct sunlight exposure. Intense direct sunlight in summer will cause the plant to stop its physiological metabolism and enter a dormant state. Therefore, we can choose to provide it with appropriate shade during June-August when the sunlight is intense, to prevent sunburn from the fierce sun.

2. Water

It does not have high water requirements and likes to grow in a relatively dry environment. This requires us not to water it too much during normal care, and to water only after the soil has dried.

3. Flower soil

It likes relatively loose flower soil rich in nutrients. Combined with its drought-loving characteristics, we should best plant it in a loose, fertile, well-drained, cool and ventilated location, and it must not be planted in places with severe water accumulation or wet, thick, heavy mud. Flower soil mixing ratio: 6 parts ordinary cultivation soil, 3 parts fertilizer soil, 1 part slag ash.

II. Precautions:

1. Not suitable for excessive watering

Luhe Red is inherently not suitable for excessive watering. In summer, when the weather is hot and the ground is dry, it can be watered appropriately, but be sure not to overwater. During rainstorm weather and the plum rain season, accumulated water needs to be drained to avoid poor root development. Also, in order for the flower soil itself to drain smoothly, the soil still needs to be loosened 3 times each year.

2. Control fertilization

Luhe Red belongs to a new peony variety and does not need concentrated fertilizer. Apply an appropriate amount of base fertilizer in winter, and the base fertilizer needs to be covered with some cultivation soil to avoid direct contact between the fertilizer and its roots. After flowering, because flowering consumes a large amount of its own nutrients, it can be topdressed once. No additional flower fertilizer is needed in other seasons.

3. Plant management

Before flowering, the buds of Luhe Red need to be managed. Find the terminal bud of the main branch. If it is a leaf bud, it should be removed. Leaf buds will carry out vegetative growth and absorb too many nutrients, which will affect the reproductive growth of flower buds. After flowering, because the branches of Luhe Red are too slender and fragile, if the flowers are too large and heavy, they are easily broken in windy and rainy weather. Attention should be paid to promptly supporting the flowers with auxiliary materials such as wooden sticks and bamboo strips. If the seeds of Luhe Red are not needed, remove the seed pods after the flowers wither to avoid the seeds taking extra nutrients.
