What are the key points to note when growing wax apple? A detailed explanation of the latest key points
The wax apple is a brightly colored fruit that has appeared in recent years. It can be called a fruit, and it can also be called a medicinal herb. I remember the first time I saw a wax apple, I really could not resist being tempted, but the price was too expensive. Still, as a test I bought one. Although the taste was just so-so, because it is a new product, it is still very popular with everyone. So Qinnongwang has brought you some key points to note about growing wax apple. If you are interested, keep reading.
1. Choose a suitable variety
There are many varieties of wax apple. The best should be Taiwan, China's Black Pearl. Most of China's wax apples are produced in Hainan, and now a small amount is also grown in many other regions, such as Guangzhou and other places. Because the growing conditions are not particularly suitable for wax apple, the yield is generally not high, and the quality is also not as good as that in Taiwan, China. If you really want to grow wax apple, you must choose a good variety. Thailand's Red Diamond also has fairly good resistance. Although the yield and quality will decline when grown in other places, it is still quite good. So generally, the only two varieties most suitable for planting are the two mentioned above.
2. Suitable growing environment
Wax apple needs to grow in an environment that is relatively warm all year round, so the growing temperature should generally be kept between 20 and 30 degrees, and the lowest growing temperature must not be lower than 12 degrees. In an environment below 12 degrees, wax apple will at best have reduced yield, and at worst the tree will die from freezing. Although wax apple growth has no requirements for soil and can basically grow in any land, if you want high yield, then you must keep the land relatively moist.
3. Reasonable planting density
Generally, wax apple trees can grow to 3 to 4 m tall, and their branches and leaves spread out relatively widely, but wax apple growth needs sufficient sunlight, so planting density also determines the yield to a certain extent. Therefore, we plant at the most reasonable density required by wax apple, which is generally 5 to 6 m between rows and 4 to 5 m between plants. Secondly, if the density is not handled well at planting time, then later, when the wax apple branches and leaves grow very luxuriantly, we need to prune the branches and leaves as appropriate to maintain a suitable density.
4. Scientific fertilizer and water management
⟦NL>Fertilizer and water management for wax apple is related to the year. Generally, for immature seedlings, we apply fertilizer twice, mainly nitrogen fertilizer, phosphorus fertilizer, and potassium fertilizer. At the same time, the soil moisture should generally be kept at all times to promote the extension of branches and leaves. For wax apple that is more than 3 years old, we mainly fertilize during the flowering period, fruiting period, and after harvest. During the flowering period, we mainly spray non-toxic organic phosphorus fertilizer. During the fruiting period, we mainly apply boron fertilizer and special fertilizer for strengthening fruit. After harvest, it is mainly to prepare for the next year, generally by piling up some farmyard manure, plant ash, or organic compost.
5. Effective pest and disease control
The diseases that harm wax apple growth are generally anthracnose, blight, and fruit rot. The main control method is spraying with chemicals. For anthracnose, we can use mancozeb wettable powder mixed with water for spraying. When symptoms are found, generally spray once every 5 to 6 days, and it will usually heal after about two times. Blight is also commonly contracted by all planted crops, so it is relatively simple to deal with; just spray with metalaxyl mancozeb. Fruit rot is a very serious problem that causes reduced wax apple yield, so it must be controlled in time. The commonly used chemicals are Amistar, kresoxim-methyl fungicide, and Baitai. Pests are also similar to those of other fruits. The most common are aphids, so Bordeaux solution or imidacloprid are both extremely effective.
