Pineapple is one of the seasonal fruits of summer. Its nutritional value and edible value are extremely high, and it is a fruit with excellent economic benefits. Pineapple is a perennial herb with strong adaptability and vigorous growth, and it yields returns in the very year it is planted, which has attracted many people to grow it. Below, Qinnong Web brings the high-yield pineapple planting techniques.

1. Site Selection and Orchard Choice

Pineapple is a tropical fruit and by nature prefers warm, humid regions. In addition, it prefers loose, fertile, slightly acidic soil with good drainage and aeration, and it should not be planted in neutral or alkaline soil; the pH value is best between 4 and 5.5. It is generally planted on wind-sheltered, sunny, open and flat plots, which can reduce wind damage, decrease soil erosion, and also facilitate transportation and mechanized management. When establishing the orchard, trenches must be dug and a drainage system set up properly. When preparing the land, plow the soil deeply and rake it fine. If it is hillside land with a relatively steep slope, terraces with an inclined gradient must be built to conserve soil and water.

2. Field Planting Management

Reasonable close planting is the key point for achieving high pineapple yields. The planting density should be determined according to the pineapple variety and planting conditions. Proper close planting can both increase the number of plants and improve the photosynthesis of the leaves, promoting high yields. Generally, single-row planting is used on plots with a relatively steep slope, with about 3,000-4,000 plants per mu, and the plant-to-row spacing is controlled at 30*120 cm. Besides single-row planting, there are also double-row planting and triple-row planting, which can be chosen according to local conditions. Before field planting, sufficient base fertilizer must be applied; plots with base fertilizer have higher yields than those without. The principle for pineapple field planting is deep plowing and shallow planting, and the soil covering should not be too deep.

3. Growing Management

Growing management mainly includes fertilizer and water management, weeding, and pruning. Pineapple has a relatively large demand for potassium during growth, so potassium fertilizer should be appropriately increased. When fertilizing, nitrogen fertilizer is the base: in the early stage, nitrogen fertilizer is dominant with potassium fertilizer as a supplement, while in the later stage it is the opposite. After planting, pineapple needs weeding 4-5 times each year to ensure smooth growth and prevent weeds from competing for nutrients. During the bud stage of pineapple, to ensure the yield for the coming year, part of the plant's buds can be cut off, keeping some strong buds, so as to avoid excessive consumption of nutrients and prepare for fruiting the following year.

4. Pest and Disease Control

Pests and diseases are also a cause affecting pineapple yield. To achieve high and premium pineapple yields, pest and disease control is indispensable. The main pineapple diseases are wilt disease and heart rot. Wilt disease mainly harms the leaves, causing them to soften and droop and to turn red in color; heart rot mainly harms seedlings, causing the seedling heart to rot and the plant to die. Both can be controlled with chemicals. For wilt disease, a 500-fold dimethoate solution can be sprayed for control; for heart rot, carbendazim can be sprayed for control. When sunlight is intense, appropriate shading should be provided.
