The Latest Field Management Methods for Cantaloupe Cultivation
Cantaloupe is a specialty of Xinjiang. When people talk about cantaloupe, they may think of Xinjiang. Although it is a specialty fruit of Xinjiang, it is very popular all over our country. So now, relying on greenhouse cultivation technology, it is also grown in most places, but after all, it is not a fruit we often grow, and after planting it, we do not know exactly how to manage it. So how should the daily management of cantaloupe cultivation be carried out? Let's take a look together with the editor below!
1. Seedling stage management
The seedling stage is a relatively critical period for cantaloupe, because the quality of management has a direct impact on the later survival rate. After the seedlings emerge, observe the emergence situation. If there are failed emergences or dead seedlings, replant them in time. When the seedlings grow a certain number of leaves, it is time to start thinning and fixing the seedlings, removing the poorly growing, short and weak seedlings. Also pull out excess weeds in the field to prevent them from affecting seedling growth.
2. Temperature
Except in Xinjiang, large-scale cultivation in most parts of our country uses the greenhouse method. Temperature has a relatively large effect on the growth of cantaloupe, and controlling temperature well promotes the growth of cantaloupe. In particular, the temperature difference between day and night is the most important. Cantaloupe has different temperature requirements at each growth stage. It should be noted that the temperature at night should not be too high, as it will affect the growth and development of the fruit.
3. Topdressing
Apply topdressing appropriately according to the growth condition of the plants. The first topdressing should be when the seedlings grow to about 5cm, applying fertilizers such as diamine or urea. The purpose of topdressing is to promote the plants' nutrient absorption, speed up plant growth, preserve flowers and set fruit, etc. At certain stages of growth, such as the flowering stage and the expansion stage, topdress in time. Pay attention to the balance of fertilizers, and do not apply a single fertilizer excessively to the fruit.
4. Watering
Water is one of the indispensable substances in the growth of cantaloupe. Proper watering can effectively promote the growth of cantaloupe, improve the fruit-setting rate, and ensure yield. Note that the flowering stage, fruiting stage, and vine growth stage of cantaloupe are peak periods of water demand. The specific amount of watering is determined according to field moisture and weather changes, etc. It should be noted that watering cannot be done after expansion, because it will affect the fruit's sugar absorption.
5. Pruning
There are two methods for pruning cantaloupe, determined according to the actual soil conditions. If soil fertility is relatively good, the double-vine pruning method can be used. Pruning is mainly to prevent diseased branches, overgrown branches, and overly dense branches from affecting the growth of cantaloupe. It can also appropriately improve orchard ventilation, enhance plant photosynthesis, increase the accumulation of nutrients in the fruit, and increase the sugar content of the fruit.
The above five points are the field management methods for growing cantaloupe. In fact, they are also the environmental conditions needed for cantaloupe growth. Control these conditions well, and basically we have reached half of our cultivation goal. Do a good job in orchard management and promote plant growth to maximize our economic benefits.
