The latest techniques for routine management in cherry cultivation
Cherry is a relatively popular fruit in our country, and every year when it comes into season, many people buy it. Its market price is also relatively high, so many people now want to grow cherries to increase their own income. However, before planting, we should do comprehensive preparatory work and master certain cultivation and management techniques. Today, the editor brings you the management methods for growing cherries. Let's take a look below!
1. Reasonable watering
Cherries have a relatively large demand for water, and during cultivation we must ensure a sufficient amount of water for cherry growth. Cherries have different water requirements at each stage of growth. Before the cherry trees reach the flowering stage, we should water once with pre-bloom water to promote cherry sprouting and flowering. The pit-hardening stage of cherries is when they grow fastest and also when their water demand is greatest. We must water enough; insufficient water supply will affect fruit development. It will also increase flower and fruit drop. During this period, the soil must be kept in a moist state at all times.
2. Timely topdressing
During the entire growth period of cherries, topdressing should be done at least three times. The first topdressing should be in early February, which is a key period for the plants to resume growth. They need a large amount of nutrients, and their nutrient absorption capacity will gradually increase. Proper topdressing can strengthen tree vigor and photosynthesis. This topdressing amount accounts for about half of the total topdressing amount. The second time is to apply nitrogen fertilizer when the cherry trees bloom, to promote plant growth, improve flower set and fruit set, and ensure yield. The third time is carried out at harvest, because after harvest the tree's nutrients are reduced, so in order to improve the tree's nutrients and enhance the tree's resistance, topdressing should be done in time.
3. Shaping and pruning
After harvest, we should prune out overly dense branches, water sprouts, and some diseased branches, and cultivate internal branches to prevent a lack of branches inside from reducing yield. We must also ensure the density of branches on the outer part of the plant to prevent excessive density from affecting photosynthesis. After pruning, do the pinching work well. For some new shoots with enough space to grow, they can be controlled at about 10 cm and repeatedly pinched. Control branch growth to prevent excessive length from consuming too many nutrients. Finally, remove some new buds that have no space to grow after retraction and sprouting following pinching.
4. Detail management
Before planting cherries, sufficient base fertilizer should be applied before November. The base fertilizer can use decomposed farmyard manure. Determine the amount of base fertilizer according to the number of plants, and reasonably prepare the nutrient ratio in the base fertilizer. When applying nitrogen fertilizer as topdressing, pay attention to the amount. It must never be too much; too much will lead to excessive nutrients in the plant and cause leggy growth. It should also be applied together with fertilizers such as phosphate and potassium fertilizers, but nitrogen fertilizer should still be the main one. Otherwise, the plant's nutrients will be unbalanced, which will have a certain impact on fruit set and fruit expansion.
The above is a brief introduction to the routine management methods for growing cherries. In fact, these are also some points we need to pay attention to. These are all very important for cherry growth and are closely related to cherry yield and quality. Also pay attention to the harm of pests and diseases. In fact, after managing these aspects well, the incidence of pests and diseases will also decrease accordingly. So everyone must strengthen management when planting.
