A Detailed Guide to Guava Bagging Time and Method
Guava, commonly known as guava or guava, has extremely high nutritional value; its fruit can treat diabetes and lower blood sugar, and can also help prevent and control high blood pressure, with powerful effects. During cultivation, due to certain environmental or pest and disease factors, fruit growers bag the fruit. Bagging not only improves the fruit's glossiness but also prevents the damage of pests and diseases. So when should guava be bagged? And how should it be bagged? Let's take a look together.
1. Bagging time
Guava bagging generally should be done one month after the fruit sets, when the young fruit reaches 3-4 cm in longitudinal diameter and the fruit begins to droop. Only by bagging at this time can the best effect be achieved. If bagging is done too early, there are fewer fruits, it is not easy to handle, and it can very easily cause physiological fruit drop of young fruit, making bagging ineffective. If bagging is done too late, the young fruit has already grown to a certain extent, and at this time bagging often loses its meaning because the fruit has already suffered pest damage.
2. Fruit thinning
Before bagging guava, fruit thinning must be done first. When thinning fruit, keep more fruit on branches with large and thick leaves, and fewer on the contrary. Generally, the average yield of guava is about 2000 kg per mu. Therefore, each plant should have about 60 fruits controlled. In principle, generally one fruit is kept per fruiting branch, while vigorous fruiting branches keep 2-3, and weak fruiting branches keep one or have all removed. In addition, when thinning fruit, promptly remove some abnormal fruits or fruits affected by pests and diseases, so as to prevent pests and diseases from spreading to other fruits.
3. Bag selection
The material used for bagging is also extremely important. It is recommended to choose a double-layer polypropylene material, with the inner layer being a white foam mesh tube and the outer layer being a 0.02 mm thick white transparent film bag. It should be noted that the inner foam mesh tube is best chosen at 4 mm thick. If it is too thin, pests can pierce through the mesh tube and lay eggs directly inside the fruit, making bagging ineffective.

First, when the fruit turns at the stalk and droops, spray a pesticide once. The pesticide can be a low-concentration solution of thiophanate-methyl and fenvalerate emulsifiable concentrate. After spraying, let it air-dry naturally. First put on the inner foam mesh bag, then put on the outer plastic film, press the mesh opening and bag opening tightly against the fruit stalk and tie them firmly to prevent falling off. Finally, leave a small hole at the left, middle, and right positions at the bottom of the bag for drainage, so as to avoid water accumulation causing fruit rot.
