Mango is one of our favorite fruits, with many varieties and a wide growing range, but during mango cultivation, the harm caused by pests and diseases has become an important factor in mango growing today, and it can have a huge impact on mango yield and quality. So what common pests and diseases occur during mango cultivation? Let's take a look at the control methods for common mango pests and diseases.

1. Anthracnose

Anthracnose mainly harms the young leaves, flowers and fruits, and young shoots of mango plants, causing flower and fruit drop or fruit rot. After the branches and leaves are infected, many brown round spots appear, and they expand into large round, polygonal, or irregular lesions. When the disease is severe, the leaves shrink and twist, and finally die. After the fruit is infected, brown round lesions appear, the center of the lesion sinks, the flesh becomes stiff, and finally it rots.

Control methods: After harvest, combine orchard cleaning, prune off diseased and dead branches and leaves, burn them in a centralized manner or bury them deeply, and chemical sprays can be used for control. For example, when new shoots emerge, spray mancozeb or thiophanate-methyl for control; during the flowering period, spray captan or ferbam for control; the fruit can be soaked in carbendazim, which has a certain preservative effect.

2. Powdery mildew

Powdery mildew mainly harms the inflorescences, fruits, leaves, and young parts of the plant. At the affected areas, powdery white lesions first appear, and the lesions gradually merge together to form a layer of white powdery substance, so that the inflorescences cannot bloom normally, and in severe cases the fruits also drop.

Control methods: When the disease occurs, spray thiophanate-methyl, triadimefon, Kang Kuning, lime sulfur mixture, chlorothalonil, and other chemicals, once every 7-10 days, and spray 2-3 times continuously.

3. Gummosis

It mainly harms the branches and trunk. When the disease occurs, the stem tissue discolors and small black grains can be seen, then the stem of the plant exudes amber resin and later turns brown. The branches above and below the diseased part may sprout some small branches, but the leaves slowly fade, and finally the entire branch withers. Peeling open the diseased tissue reveals that the bark and xylem have turned reddish brown.

Control methods: When the disease occurs, promptly dig out the affected area, then apply Bordeaux mixture, and regularly spray copper oxychloride or phosethyl-Al.

4. Insect pests

The main insect pests of mango are mango scale insects, mango fruit-piercing moths, mango blossom midges, and mango leaf-cutting weevils. They harm different parts of the mango plant, bore into or suck the sap of young parts, and ultimately cause the plant to weaken, leading to flower and fruit drop, affecting and harming yield and quality.

Control methods: To control insect pests, start from the source of the insects. During orchard cleaning, remove overwintering insect eggs completely. Spray chemicals for control at the larval stage, and combine agricultural control and physical control together to completely eradicate the insect pests.
