Pomelo is a common fruit in our country. Because the pomelo tree has strong resistance, it is widely planted in our country, but it is planted most frequently mainly in the areas south of the Yangtze River. There are now also many varieties of pomelo, such as Juhong, Shatian pomelo, Wendan, Pingshan pomelo, Jinxiang pomelo, red-heart pomelo, and so on. So what issues need attention when planting pomelo? Let us take a look below at the considerations for pomelo cultivation.

1. Time

Although the pomelo tree has strong resistance, in many areas pomelo trees are in fact planted in all four seasons, but the survival rate will be greatly reduced. So when planting pomelo, we need to grasp the best planting time, generally from September to November of the following year, and also February to March of each spring. During these two periods, the reproductive ability of the pomelo tree is stronger, the root system grows faster after planting, and the survival rate can reach more than 90 percent.

2. Temperature

The temperature for planting pomelo trees is also a very important planting condition. If, when planting, the temperature is too high or too low, the impact on the survival rate and growth of the pomelo tree is very great. The temperature suitable for pomelo tree growth is 17 degrees to 18 degrees, which is the best temperature for pomelo tree growth, and the highest planting temperature cannot be higher than 40 degrees, which is to say that under other temperature conditions it can also grow, but the growth speed will slow down.

3. Density

Planting density will affect the growth trend of pomelo trees, as well as the later yield and quality of pomelo. When planting, we need to reasonably control the planting density, and under the condition of fully using land resources, achieve the best planting benefit. Generally speaking, about 55 to 60 trees can be planted per mu, the distance between each row is about 4 m, and the distance between each pomelo tree is about 3 m.

4. Water and fertilizer

Fertilizing and watering are a point that requires special attention when planting pomelo trees. When planting, the soil needs to be watered wet, which can improve the survival rate. Next, after planting, if drought occurs, then watering should be carried out reasonably according to the water needs of the pomelo tree. But if there is continuous rainfall, it also cannot be left unattended, and timely drainage is also needed, otherwise it will affect the fruiting amount of pomelo. When planting, heavy application of base fertilizer is needed, and after successful planting, timely topdressing should be carried out, mainly based on farmyard manure, once a month. After half a year, the amount of fertilizer applied should be appropriately increased to ensure that the plant grows more robustly.

5. Pruning

Pruning is a problem that many people ignore in the growth process of pomelo trees. In fact, the growth of pomelo requires sufficient light, otherwise it is difficult for pomelo to grow large, and it is also difficult to accumulate sugar. Pruning young trees is to promote the growth of the main branches, while pruning mature trees is to increase yield and improve quality. The pruning principle is to prune old branches, dead branches, diseased branches, insect-damaged branches, weak branches, and dense branches, and retain strong and vigorous branches.

Here the editor also wants to remind everyone to pay attention to one point, which is to thin flowers during the full flowering period and to thin fruit promptly after fruit set. If flower and fruit thinning are not carried out, the physiological fruit drop phenomenon will be very serious, and this has a direct impact on the yield of pomelo.
