Passion fruit is a fruit with very high nutritional value, and passion fruit juice, dried passion fruit and other products processed from passion fruit are all very popular. The planting area of passion fruit in our country is still expanding, but many people do not know how to propagate and expand the planting area. In fact, passion fruit has three propagation methods, all of which everyone needs to master. Below, the editor brings you the propagation methods of passion fruit, let's take a look!

1. Seed propagation

The most commonly used propagation method for passion fruit is seed propagation, which generally begins in spring and autumn each year. First, take the seeds out of plump, juicy fruits free of pests and diseases, then wash the seeds clean with clear water. Then soak the seeds in warm water at about 40°C for 15-16 hours, after that take them out and soak them in a thiophanate-methyl solution for about 2 hours to disinfect and sterilize the seeds. After soaking, dry them, then wrap the seeds in a wet cloth and place them at a temperature of about 26-28°C for germination. During germination, turn the seeds once about every 6 hours, then wash the seeds once every other day. When about 85% have sprouted white, sowing can begin.

2. Cutting propagation

Cutting propagation is also a basic propagation method, beginning around November each year. First, select semi-lignified branches that grow thick and strong, bear many fruits and have not been harmed by pests and diseases. After cutting the branches, cut them into small sections of about 10 cm, keeping 1-2 buds on each section. Then remove about 3/5 of the leaves to prevent water from evaporating too quickly and lowering the survival rate of the cuttings. Then disinfect and sterilize the sections and do the germination work well. Finally, prepare the cutting substrate, insert the cuttings vertically into the substrate, keeping 1/3 of the cutting above the ground. After cutting, water thoroughly, set up rain-proof and shade measures, control watering according to the weather and soil moisture, and keep the soil moist. About one month after cutting, they will take root and sprout.

3. Grafting propagation

The last one is grafting propagation. The time for grafting propagation of passion fruit is usually in spring each year. First, select a passion fruit variety with strong resistance as the grafting rootstock. The rootstock seedlings should be cultivated starting one year before grafting, and then when the rootstock diameter reaches 5 mm, grafting can be done at the right time. The conditions for selecting the scion are the same as for selecting cuttings. First select the scion well, then handle the scion according to the requirements of cutting propagation. Note that the lower part of the scion should be cut at a slant to facilitate grafting. After preparing the scion, make a cut on the rootstock at a position about 12 cm above the ground, then cut at a slant of about 2 cm, attach the scion, and handle the cut well. The temperature during grafting must not be too high. One week after grafting, check whether it has survived; those that have not survived should be grafted again.

What to note in grafting propagation is that after grafting, prevent direct sunlight, then water appropriately according to weather changes, and during the grafted seedling stage keep the soil moist to improve the survival rate of grafting. No matter what propagation method is used, management must be strengthened after the seedlings are established to ensure the survival rate. Avoid seedling failure, which affects planting benefits.
