Cherries currently on the market are mainly divided into three types: Chinese cherry, Nanking cherry, and sweet cherry (European sweet cherry). Cherry is a very popular fruit. At present, cherries in our country are mainly distributed in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Gansu and other places. Due to low yields, the market price is relatively high. So today, the editor will teach you how to grow cherries. Let's take a look at the content below.

1. Seedbed Preparation

Cherries have no particular requirements for soil, so we can be relatively relaxed about selecting and preparing the seedbed. Generally, the seedbed site should be in a wind-sheltered area. After cleaning the seedbed thoroughly, loosen and level the soil, apply sufficient farmyard manure to the seedbed, break up the soil clods finely, and finally open furrows and make beds. When the surface soil temperature rises back to about 10 degrees, you can begin raising seedlings.

2. Sapling Cultivation

There are four methods for cultivating cherry saplings: the seedling method, also called seed propagation; cutting propagation; layering; and grafting. Different propagation methods each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Cherry saplings grown from seed grow slowly and have a low emergence rate; cutting propagation has a relatively high survival rate, but management is relatively more complicated; layering propagation shows relatively large varietal variation; while grafted propagation produces high-quality fruit and has a short growth cycle, but the grafting technique is not yet fully mature. No matter which propagation method is used, we need to pay attention to the management of water, temperature, light, ventilation and nutrients during the seedling period, so that we can cultivate healthy cherry seedlings.

3. Field Preparation

Cherries are characterized by a preference for light, warmth, moisture and fertile soil, so when choosing a planting site, it is best to select one according to its growth characteristics. Cherry trees are suitable for growing in sunny, water-adjacent, fertile, wind-sheltered areas. The soil is best if it is sandy loam, as this kind of soil has good permeability as well as good fertilizer and water retention. Finally, apply base fertilizer to the field, mainly decomposed livestock manure or barnyard manure, together with a small amount of compound fertilizer, and carry out hole cultivation.

4. Transplanting and Planting

There are only four points to pay attention to when transplanting cherry saplings. First, when transplanting, it is best to lift the sapling out together with the base soil, so as not to damage the root system of the cherry sapling and to improve its survival rate. Second, the spacing of the planting holes: the row spacing is generally 4 m, and the plant spacing is 3 m. Third, when planting, we should lift the sapling upward, straighten it, and then fill in the soil. Finally, after filling the soil, compact the ground and water it once.

5. Field Management

After the young trees are planted and have survived, what we need to do is water and fertilize them frequently, while paying attention to reasonable spacing for the young trees, cultivating the tree crown of the cherry trees, and maintaining their tree vigor. After the cherry trees bloom and bear fruit, we need to carry out water and fertilizer management according to the leaf and branch growth period, flowering period, fruit period and post-harvest period of the cherries, and carry out intertillage and hilling from time to time. Finally, we should also pay attention to preventing the effects of frost damage and pests and diseases on the cherry trees.

The above is the cherry tree cultivation method the editor wants to share with you today. In fact, there is still a lot of knowledge we need to master regarding fertilizing, watering, preventing frost damage, pests and diseases, and other aspects of cherry trees.
