The Latest Techniques and Methods for Fertilizing Green Jujube
Green jujube is a tropical and subtropical fruit. It is crisp and sweet, with high nutritional value, containing large amounts of vitamin C, calcium and phosphorus. Because of its attractive fruit shape, it is also known as the tropical little apple. To grow green jujube well, fertilization is crucial. Below, let's take a look with the editor at the fertilization techniques for green jujube.
1. Fertilizer requirements
Green jujube grows rapidly, and apart from the fruit being very heavy, it also requires heavy pruning every year, so its fertilizer demand is extremely high, and the types of fertilizer needed are also quite numerous. According to research, producing every 100 kg of green jujube requires the consumption of 43.8 grams of pure nitrogen, 7.5 grams of pure phosphorus, 101 grams of pure potassium, as well as some calcium, magnesium and iron. Its growth cannot be separated from nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Among these, the demand for potassium is 2-3 times that of nitrogen, so more potassium fertilizer should be applied during production, which can increase yield. The demand for magnesium is also relatively high, at 3 times that of phosphorus, while calcium is about 60% of phosphorus, so attention must be paid to the supply of these trace elements at market time.
2. Fertilizing young trees
For young trees that have not yet borne fruit and are 5 years old, fertilization should follow the principles of frequent light application, small amounts with more frequent doses, and light first then concentrated. In spring, summer and autumn, fertilizer should be applied once a month. In spring, nitrogen fertilizer is the main type, to promote flower bud differentiation; in summer, phosphorus fertilizer is the main type, to promote strong branch growth; in autumn, potassium fertilizer is the main type, to speed up the transport of nutrients in the plant, enabling it to flower and bear fruit, laying the foundation for high yield.
3. Fertilizing fruit-bearing trees
For adult trees that have already borne fruit, fertilizer should be applied four times a year. The first is base fertilizer, applied in March-April after fruit harvest, to replenish the nutrients consumed by the plant, help it recover its tree vigor as quickly as possible, and lay the foundation for a bumper harvest the following year. Generally, 40-50 kg of decomposed farmyard manure is applied per tree, and an appropriate amount of calcium, magnesium and other micro-fertilizers can also be applied at the same time. The second is flower fertilizer, applied in June-July, to promote flower bud differentiation, mainly using quick-acting nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer. If the plant is growing excessively, less nitrogen fertilizer should be applied, with phosphorus and potassium fertilizer as the main types. The third is fruit-setting fertilizer, applied in September-October, to increase the fruit-setting rate and promote fruit development, mainly using nitrogen and potassium fertilizer. The fourth is fruit-strengthening fertilizer, applied in December-January, mainly using potassium fertilizer, to promote fruit enlargement and improve yield and quality.
