How to Grow Chucheng Oranges? Latest Planting Techniques and Methods Tutorial
Chucheng orange is a type of sweet orange native to Yunnan. Chucheng oranges have a very high sugar content and are rich in vitamin C, giving them high nutritional value. Compared with other oranges, although the peel is thick, it is easier to remove, so it became very popular as soon as it hit the market. So how should we grow Chucheng oranges? Today, the editor brings you the planting techniques for Chucheng oranges. Let's take a look below!
1. Site Selection and Orchard Establishment
Chucheng oranges are suitable for growing in fertile, loose, deep soil rich in organic matter. After selecting the site, the soil should be deeply plowed. If conditions permit, mechanical deep plowing can be carried out. When deep plowing, pay attention to building good pedestrian pathways to facilitate later management. Prepare water conservancy facilities, then six months before planting, control the planting density well, dig the planting trenches, and then thoroughly mature the soil in the planting trenches. After successful maturation, fill the planting trenches with topsoil, then apply organic fertilizer and organic matter in layers on the topsoil to improve soil fertility.
2. Seed Selection and Seedling Raising
When selecting seeds, choose high-yielding varieties with large fruit, abundant juice and few instances of fruit drop and fruit cracking. Chucheng oranges are generally propagated mainly by grafting, and the main rootstock used for grafting is trifoliate orange. Cultivating robust seedlings is the key to ensuring high and stable yields of Chucheng oranges. The seedlings must have well-developed roots, and after grafting, the graft union should be encouraged to heal as quickly as possible. When the grafted seedlings grow to about 45 cm with about 4 branches, carry out the temporary planting work. When temporary planting, do it with soil attached, and choose soil with sufficient sunlight, sufficient water sources and sufficient fertility. It is best to do this near the permanent planting orchard to facilitate transplanting and permanent planting.
3. Timely Permanent Planting
The size of the planting hole mainly depends on the size of the seedling; it only needs to ensure that the seedling roots make full contact with the soil. If no base fertilizer has been applied, then the planting hole should be slightly enlarged to facilitate fertilization after planting. The best time for permanent planting of Chucheng oranges should be around September each year, though it can also be done in early spring or early summer. When planting, straighten out the seedling roots and place them into the planting hole, then fill in soil in layers, paying attention to the depth and keeping it moderate. Then cover the roots with a layer of fine soil. After filling the soil, compact and tread the soil around the roots firmly, then water thoroughly, then prune part of the branches and leaves, and water once about every 5 days.
4. Field Management
Water and fertilizer are very important for the growth of Chucheng oranges. During the planting process, we should rationally fertilize and water according to the different tree ages of Chucheng orange trees to meet their water and nutrient needs. Then, if the soil in an adult orchard becomes compacted, carry out one intertillage operation each autumn. Break up the soil compaction, then appropriately expand the planting holes, apply one round of farmyard manure, and improve the soil structure. In addition, the planting spacing of Chucheng oranges is relatively large, so we can appropriately interplant some vegetables between the rows of Chucheng oranges, but tall-stemmed plants must not be planted, to prevent affecting the growth of Chucheng oranges.
The above is a brief introduction to the planting techniques for Chucheng oranges. Growing Chucheng oranges is actually quite similar to growing other ordinary oranges. However, we still need to do a good job in management to ensure the yield of Chucheng oranges, enhance their quality, and improve planting benefits. That is all for today's introduction.
