The Latest Technical Method Tutorial for Sowing and Raising Watermelon Seedlings
Watermelon can be said to be a very popular fruit in our country. As temperatures gradually rise, once summer is about to arrive, watermelon also gradually enters its market peak season. Now is the best time period for watermelon planting, and many farmers have gradually begun the sowing and seedling raising work for watermelon. So how exactly should it be done? Below, the editor brings you the sowing and seedling raising techniques for watermelon. Let's take a look together!
1. Seedbed selection
The seedbed is very important for seed germination. Before sowing, you must first choose a suitable plot of land as the watermelon seedling bed. The seedling bed should be chosen in a place that is sheltered from the wind, has sufficient sunlight and sufficient soil fertility. Then, according to the planting area, reasonably set up the frames to facilitate the growth of watermelon. After choosing the land, simply improve the soil, turn the soil deeply, then dig trenches and apply fertilizer to improve soil fertility. At this time, it is not suitable to water, because watering will cause the soil to harden, seriously affecting the growth of watermelon.
2. Seed selection and soaking
The selection of watermelon seeds is closely related to yield. When selecting seeds, we must choose from a certified seed market, and select suitable varieties according to local market demand and the environment. After selecting the seeds, soak the seeds in warm water for about 10 hours to end the seed dormancy period. Then soak the seeds in a medicinal solution for about 2 hours for sterilization and disinfection. Finally, wrap the seeds in a wet cloth and place them at a temperature of about 22-24 degrees for germination. Spray an appropriate amount of water every day to maintain humidity. When about 90% of the seeds have sprouted, they can be sown.
3. Timely sowing
When the seed preparation work is done, sowing can be carried out at the right time. First, dig the sowing holes in the seedbed, put about 3 seeds in each sowing hole, and control the plant and row spacing at about 4cm. After sowing, do the management work well, cover with a layer of fine soil and then add a layer of plastic film. Do a good job in regulating the temperature and humidity of the seedling bed. If the temperature fluctuates greatly, then a layer of straw also needs to be covered on the seedling bed to improve the soil's heat preservation capacity and promote seed germination. Before the seeds break through the soil, note that ventilation should not be carried out, to avoid hindering seed germination.
4. Daily management
After the seeds emerge, do the ventilation work well. When the seedlings grow to about 5cm, carry out proper hardening of the seedlings to improve the growth ability of the seedlings. Then prepare nutritional pots filled with humus soil and transfer the seedlings into the nutritional pots. Pick out the seedlings that are weak, poorly growing, or affected by pests and diseases. After all are transplanted, water promptly to ensure healthy growth of the seedlings. Then control the temperature at about 20 degrees. The nighttime temperature should not be lower than 18 degrees, otherwise it will inhibit the growth of the seedlings. The daytime temperature should not exceed 26 degrees, otherwise it will cause the seedlings to grow excessively and reduce the survival rate after planting. Finally, when the seedlings grow to about 11 cm, carry out the transplanting work.
The above is a brief introduction to watermelon sowing and seedling raising techniques. Watermelon sowing and seedling raising techniques directly determine the growth ability and yield of watermelon, so everyone must pay close attention! That is all for today's introduction.
