The Latest Grape Fertilization Methods and Key Technical Points
In the process of growing grapes, fertilizing the grapes is a very important step in the planting and management work. Scientific fertilization is beneficial to the growth of grape seedlings and can also improve the yield and quality of the grapes. So how should we fertilize grapes? What should we pay attention to when fertilizing? Now let's follow along and learn about grape fertilization techniques together.
1. Fertilization Principles
Before fertilizing grapes, we must first understand the nutrient requirements of grape growth, and then fertilize reasonably according to its nutrient needs, so as to ensure the normal growth of the grapevines. Grapes are a fertilizer-loving plant and have a relatively large demand for fertilizer, especially during the full fruit period. Second, they have a large demand for potassium fertilizer, and their demand for micro-fertilizers is also greater than that of other fruit trees. Finally, the fertilizer requirements of grapes also change accordingly at different growth stages, so fertilization needs to be carried out reasonably according to their growth stage, and fertilizers cannot be used arbitrarily.
2. Base Fertilizer
The application rate of base fertilizer is relatively large, as it affects the growth of grapes for a whole year and plays a major role in grape growth. The application rate of base fertilizer reaches about 70 percent of the total annual fertilizer application, or even higher. The annual base fertilizer for grapes is generally applied in autumn after the fruit is harvested. Fertilizing during this period can promote the recovery of tree vigor, enhance cold resistance for overwintering, and also promote budbreak and flower bud differentiation of the grapevines the following year. Base fertilizer is mainly organic fertilizer, combined with an appropriate amount of chemical fertilizer, and the total application rate is about 850 kilograms. Base fertilizer is mainly applied by trenching, and care should be taken to avoid damaging the grapevine roots.
3. Topdressing
⟦NL>The later topdressing of grapevines is mainly divided into five stages, namely bud-promoting fertilizer, pre-flowering fertilizer, fruit-swelling fertilizer, coloring fertilizer, and post-harvest topdressing. The types and amounts of fertilizer required at different stages are all different. Generally, bud-promoting fertilizer is applied in February, mainly nitrogen fertilizer, with about 20 kilograms per mu, and an appropriate 10 kilograms of phosphate fertilizer applied by trenching or hole application. Pre-flowering fertilizer is applied at the end of April, mainly nitrogen fertilizer and phosphate fertilizer, with the nitrogen fertilizer amount controlled at 15 kilograms per mu and phosphate fertilizer at about 10 kilograms, and it should be combined with watering. The fertilizer demand during the fruit-swelling period is relatively large, mainly nitrogen fertilizer and potassium fertilizer, with potassium fertilizer at 40 kilograms and nitrogen fertilizer at about 30 kilograms. In order to make the grapes color more evenly and improve grape quality, we also need to appropriately apply potassium fertilizer and magnesium fertilizer as topdressing. Finally, after the grapes are harvested, in order to ease tree vigor, about 15 kilograms of ternary compound fertilizer can be appropriately used. Of course, at this time it can also be combined with the base fertilizer for the following year.
4. Fertilization Precautions
When fertilizing grapes, there are several points that require special attention. First, base fertilizer should not be applied too shallowly, otherwise it will cause seedling death; second, appropriate fertilization should be carried out at germination to avoid leaf yellowing, but do not blindly apply topdressing or supplement iron; also, more fertilizer is not always better, and fertilization should be reasonable; finally, when fertilizing, it should not be too close to the trunk, and attention should be paid to watering after fertilization.
The above is the introduction to grape fertilization techniques that I want to share with you today. I hope it can help friends who are just starting to grow grapes and those who do not know how to fertilize grapes reasonably.
