Jaboticaba is a shrub plant of the genus Plinia in the Myrtaceae family. Because its fruit looks very similar to grapes, like individual grapes growing on a tree, it is also called the tree grape. At present, jaboticaba in China is mainly grown in Taiwan, China, Fujian, Zhejiang, Guangxi and other regions with relatively mild climates all year round. So today let us study together the precautions for growing jaboticaba. Please see the exciting content explained below.

1. Soil

Jaboticaba has extremely good adaptability to the soil environment of the growing site, so basically there are not too many requirements; but note that overly sandy soil, heavily clayey soil, alkaline soil or barren areas are all not very suitable for jaboticaba growth. If you want jaboticaba to grow well, then the soil at the growing site must have good permeability, sufficient soil fertility, and at the same time be sandy loam soil that tends toward acidity. Also, the water resources around the growing site should be abundant, and the drainage and irrigation systems as well as transportation should be relatively convenient.

2. Temperature

Jaboticaba is a tropical fruit, so its temperature requirements are relatively high. If the temperature is too low, or if the temperature is too high, both will affect the yield and quality of jaboticaba, and in severe cases may even affect the survival of the jaboticaba tree. The most suitable temperature for jaboticaba growth is 22 to 35 degrees. During the growth process we can use greenhouse technology for temperature regulation. At the same time we should note that the minimum temperature generally should not be lower than 10 degrees. Although it will not cause death, it will still affect its normal growth.

3. Light

The jaboticaba growing site must have sufficient light. If there is insufficient light, then it is all for nothing, so we can also adjust light through artificial means. First of all, when planting we should pay attention to the planting density, which has a great impact on the light intensity in the field later on. Generally the row spacing is 3 to 4 m, and the plant spacing is about 2 m to 3 m.

4. Water and fertilizer

Jaboticaba has the characteristic of liking moisture, so when planting we should pay attention to keeping the soil moist and water frequently; although watering is needed, the amount of watering should not be too large, and there must be no standing water in the field, so in heavy rainfall weather drainage management is also needed. When fertilizing, we usually use water-soluble fertilizer, long-acting fertilizer, organic fertilizer and a small amount of micro-fertilizer and chemical fertilizer together. The most important thing is to reasonably configure the proportion of fertilizers.

5. Pruning

The growth cycle of the jaboticaba tree is relatively long, because its growth speed is relatively slow, so its pruning is still different from the pruning of other fruit trees. Generally no heavy pruning is carried out, and it is only necessary to maintain the tree shape. At ordinary times, properly prune away excess branches and leaves to maintain good permeability between the trunks.

The above points are all places we need to pay attention to during the growing process, especially in places where the growing environment is not particularly suitable for growing jaboticaba trees, we should pay even more attention.
