Lychee flowering and fruiting can be affected by various factors. The internal causes generally include its own physiological fruit drop, while the external causes include weather, environment, nutrition, water and other factors. But no matter what the cause, as long as the goal is to maintain a good state of lychee flowering and fruiting, it is necessary to learn some technical measures for preserving flowers and fruits to prevent and regulate problems.

1. Fertilization

In late-flowering areas, fertilization is used to provide flowering nutrition. Fertilization is generally done by opening a ring-shaped trench under each tree and applying about 1 to 2 jin of high-efficiency compound fertilizer. Half a month before flowering, spray 0.2% magnesium sulfate on the leaves. In addition, some branches can be pruned during the flowering period, and bees can also be kept in the orchard to increase the success rate of pollination and fertilization.

2. Temperature Control

If a sudden low temperature occurs and flower thinning is needed, the concentration of the flower-thinning agent used should be reduced. If low temperature and rain persist, a growth regulator can be sprayed to slow down the flowering process. If a sudden high temperature occurs, some water should be sprayed on the flowers to prevent water loss. Bees can also be kept in the orchard to increase the success rate of pollination and fertilization.

3. Flower Preservation

Once the flowering period begins, 2,4-D combined with paclobutrazol can be sprayed on the leaves to regulate the balance of flowering. After flowering, part of the flower panicles can be thinned by pruning, and then the leaves near the flower panicles can be removed to avoid competition for nutrients.

4. Fruit Preservation

Generally, before each physiological fruit drop, one topdressing is needed, using compound fertilizer, with less nitrogen fertilizer applied and mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can also be sprayed on the leaves for rapid absorption. If drought occurs, timely irrigation should be carried out to ensure the tree's water supply and avoid fruit drop caused by water loss. Ring girdling can also be carried out in the early fruiting stage to accumulate nutrients and ensure nutrient supply to the fruit. In addition, the simplest and fastest method is to spray a growth regulator, generally spraying gibberellin during the expansion stage or spraying gibberellin one month after the female flowers fall.

5. Disease Prevention

Mainly prevent downy mildew and anthracnose, and also lychee stink bugs and fruit borer moths. Before flower bud emergence, spray some mancozeb or Baitai agent for prevention. During the flowering and fruiting period, use trichlorfon and various other agents alternately to control pests.

The above are the specific measures for preserving flowers and fruits in lychee. I hope this content is helpful to you. To learn more about lychee, you can follow our future updates.
