Kiwifruit needs sufficient nutrients and water during the enlargement stage. At this time, scientific and reasonable topdressing plays an extremely important role in improving the yield and quality of kiwifruit. So how should kiwifruit be fertilized during the enlargement stage? Let's find out together with the editor.

1. Fertilizer requirement characteristics

For kiwifruit, the uptake of nitrogen fertilizer at this time accounts for 53 of the annual nitrogen requirement, phosphorus uptake accounts for 55% of the annual phosphorus requirement, and potassium uptake accounts for 53% of the annual potassium requirement. This period is the peak period for kiwifruit's absorption of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, and it is also the period of maximum efficiency for kiwifruit's need for nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium and other nutrients. This kind of topdressing should follow the combined application of formula fertilizer and bio-organic fertilizer, keeping the fertilizer uniform, and it is not advisable to apply only one of them, so as not to affect the normal enlargement of the fruit.

2. Fertilizer types

Kiwifruit topdressing is generally divided into high-nitrogen, high-phosphorus, and high-potassium fertilizers applied in combination with bio-organic fertilizer. A compound fertilizer with a nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium content ratio of 4:2:4 can also be selected. Farmers can also purchase urea, diammonium phosphate, and potassium chloride themselves and prepare the fertilizer in a certain proportion.

3. Fertilization amount

Fertilization during the kiwifruit enlargement stage should be determined according to the orchard. For full-bearing orchards aged 8-12 years, apply 3.5-5 kg of fertilizer per tree; for fruit trees aged 13 years or more, apply 4-6 kg per tree. For newly bearing orchards aged 5-7 years, apply 2-3.5 kg of fertilizer per tree; for 4-year-old trees, applying 1.5 kg per tree is sufficient; for newly transplanted young trees, apply 0.2 jin of diammonium phosphate + 1-2 jin of bio-organic fertilizer per tree.

4. Application method

Fertilization during the enlargement stage can be carried out beyond two-thirds of the distance from the canopy, that is, in full-bearing orchards, 60-100 cm from the main trunk, by hole application or radial trench application, then covering with soil. It is best not to broadcast or band apply, and do not use mechanical fertilization.

5. Management after fertilization

After fertilization, decide whether to irrigate according to the soil moisture condition. If irrigation is needed, it is recommended to use a plastic hose for irrigation. If the orchard has sprinkler or drip irrigation facilities, it is best to choose sprinkler or drip irrigation, and do not use flood irrigation.
