The lemons we see in everyday life all have a bright yellow appearance. This is because bagging them during the growing process has many benefits. Bagging not only improves the external quality of the fruit but also reduces pesticide residues, so many farmers bag their lemons. So how should lemons be bagged? Let's take a look.

1. Bagging time

For lemons from spring flowers, bagging is best done from June to July; for lemons from summer flowers, bagging is best done from August to September. After bagging, the fruit must be guaranteed 70-90 days of growth time so that the best bagging results can be achieved. If bagging is done too early, it is not good for fruit growth; if bagging is done too late, the bagging results are poor.

2. Bag selection

The choice of bag is also fairly important. Choose an opaque wood pulp paper bag with 50g outer paper and 40g inner paper. The bag is required to have good moisture resistance, tensile strength and permeability: it should not soak through the surface layer when treated with alcohol, it should not fall apart when rubbed in water, and a drop of water on the surface should not spread. Only then can you avoid the bag rotting on cloudy and rainy days and affecting the bagging results. After opening the bag, look through it toward the light from the inside out to check for sand holes. If there are holes, it proves the quality is poor, and it is not recommended to choose it.

3. Bagging method

Before bagging, pests and diseases should be well controlled. Choose fruit with a smooth surface, good shape, no disease or insect spots, and a fruit diameter of about 3.5cm for bagging. When bagging, first open the paper bag with your fist, then put one paper bag over one fruit, and place the fruit in the middle of the bag. Do not let the fruit touch the surface of the bag, to avoid causing sunscald. The bag opening should be placed flat and crossed at the fruit stalk. After putting the fruit in, gather the bag opening and twist the wire pre-embedded at the edge of the bag around the fruit stalk to seal it.

⟦NL>4. Precautions for bagging

1-2 days before bagging the fruit, evenly and thoroughly spray the tree body and fruit surface once with a fungicide and insecticide. Once the pesticide on the fruit surface is dry, bagging can be carried out. If lime sulfur mixture has been sprayed, bagging should be done 5-7 days after spraying to avoid burning the fruit. Fruit that has not been sprayed cannot be bagged; fruit with poor pest and disease control in the early stage cannot be bagged; fruit cannot be bagged when the pesticide solution is not dry; fruit cannot be bagged when the dew is not dry; fruit cannot be bagged on rainy days; and fruit cannot be bagged at noon under high temperature and strong light. After bagging, the opening of the paper bag should face downward. If drought occurs after bagging, irrigate promptly and cover with straw and stalks to increase humidity and lower temperature.
