How to prevent and control raspberry pests and diseases? A detailed explanation of the latest control measures
Raspberry, also known as tree raspberry, shanpaozi, and niumaipao, is currently a relatively rare fruit on the market, and it is also cultivated artificially in many places, but during the growth of raspberry it can be infected by pests and diseases. So what are the common pests and diseases of raspberry? How should they be prevented and controlled? Let's take a look together.
1. Stem rot
It mainly harms the basal canes of raspberry, generally occurring on new shoots. When the disease occurs, dark gray scald-like lesions appear on the new shoots. The lesions spread rapidly around, and the diseased part gradually turns brown. Black spots of varying sizes appear on the surface of the lesions, and the xylem turns brown and necrotic. As the diseased part expands, the leaves and petioles turn yellow and wither, eventually causing the whole plant to die. The peak period of disease occurrence is during hot and rainy seasons.
Control method: In autumn, clean the orchard by pruning and burning diseased and insect-infested branches. In the early stage of disease occurrence, spray thiophanate-methyl, phosethyl-Al, and thiram solutions for control. Disease-resistant varieties can also be selected when planting.
2. Willow ghost moth
It is a major pest harming raspberry and can also affect the yield of the following year. Larvae begin to bore into new shoots from May to July, mostly boring downward. They often come out to gnaw on the phloem outside the borehole, mostly girdling around the shoot. The chewed wood fragments are stuck together with feces by silk, forming a ring around the tree that remains for a long time, causing the damaged branch to break and die.
Control method: When adults emerge, prune the damaged branches and burn them in a centralized manner, which can reduce the threat of pests. During the larval stage, spray 2.5% deltamethrin 2000-3000 times solution, which gives a good control effect.
3. Raspberry crown borer
This pest mainly occurs on red raspberry. It generally spins a cocoon at the base of basal canes in autumn to overwinter. When leaves unfold, it climbs onto new shoots, bores into the buds, eats the tender buds completely, and then bores into the new shoots, causing the new shoots to die. After adults emerge, they lay eggs inside flowers, and the larvae bite and eat the berries. Soon afterward, they move to the base to overwinter and cause damage repeatedly.
Control method: After fruit harvest in autumn, thoroughly clean the orchard, gathering diseased and insect-infested branches, weeds, fallen leaves, and fallen fruit to burn or bury deeply, reducing overwintering pest sources. When leaves unfold in early spring, spray 80% dichlorvos 1000 times solution or 2.5% deltamethrin 3000 times solution, which can kill larvae very effectively.
