Latest Technical Methods and Tutorial for Summer Pruning of Peach Trees
Summer is the period of vigorous growth for fruit trees, and peaches are also a fruit in high market demand, so peach tree cultivation is favored by many fruit growers. In peach tree cultivation and management, pruning work is relatively important, especially summer pruning; if pruning is done improperly, it is very likely to cause a vicious cycle. So how should peach trees be pruned in summer? Let's take a look.
1. Bud removal
Bud removal means removing excess buds on the peach tree. Generally speaking, the main method of bud removal is to promptly remove or cut off the sprouts on the trunk, the shaping zone of the main branches, and around 15 cm at the base of the main branches, as well as the tender buds and tender shoots that grow alongside and overlap with the main branches, so as to save the plant's nutrient consumption and promote good flower bud differentiation.
⟦NL>2. PinchingThe purpose of pinching is to control the growth of the peach tree and create good conditions for the growth of peach tree branches. When pinching, it is recommended to leave about 20 cm. If the length is too short, it is very easy to stimulate a large number of shoots from the lower buds, causing excessive vegetative growth and excessive nutrient consumption, which is unfavorable for fruit growth and development. If it is less than 30 cm, there is no need to pinch; simply remove the tender shoot at the front to make it temporarily stop extending forward.
3. Shoot pruning
The principle of shoot pruning is similar to pinching: a certain length needs to be left and the shoot cut back. For new shoots that are too densely grown or have not been pinched in time, prune them to leave a length of about 30 cm, so as to inhibit forced growth, promote the growth of weak branches, enrich the inner canopy, and balance tree vigor.
4. Branch bending
When bending branches, the force should not be too great, otherwise the branch may be broken or the bark may be torn, giving pathogens an opportunity to invade. When bending a branch, use the left hand to hold the lower part, and use the right hand to gently knead the upper part. After the xylem becomes supple, bend the upper end to an open space so that it becomes flat and slanting or drooping. The operating position is generally about 10-15 cm from the base of the new shoot.
5. Spraying growth regulators
In May-June and September, spray a 200-300 times diluted solution of paclobutrazol growth regulator on overly vigorous fruiting trees. Do not water within one week after spraying. This can not only control excessive growth and promote flower bud growth, but also promote fruit growth and development and prevent fruit cracking.
