A Detailed Guide to the Latest Cultivation Methods for Guanxi Honey Pomelo
Guanxi honey pomelo is a specialty of Pinghe County, Fujian, and a protected geographical indication product. The advantages of this honey pomelo are that it is juicy with tender pulp, fresh and sweet in fragrance, and moderately sweet and sour in taste. So nowadays there are also many growers cultivating this honey pomelo, and cultivation always runs into this or that kind of problem. Some people also want to learn how to grow it, but how should it be grown, what should be paid attention to in cultivation, and what are the growing conditions like. All of this is what the article needs to explain clearly, so come and take a look!
1. Land
It should be in a flat area with an open view, not in a mountain basin; it should be planted on hillsides, but not too steep or too high. It should be planted on south-facing slopes, sheltered from wind and facing the sun, and not planted at the mouth of a mountain hollow where it is too exposed to wind. The site must have good drainage, but not be a place where the slope will collapse. It must be connected by roads for convenient transport.
2. Soil
It requires deep soil, loose, fertile, with a good structural layer, able to retain water naturally and drain well. A pH between 5.5 and 6.5 is fine. Avoid compacted, heavy clay soil, where roots cannot grow.
3. Seed selection
Introduced planting material must be quarantined, isolated in a nursery bed for one month of heeling-in before planting; the nursery bed should be far from the planting site, because dense seedlings are prone to disease, and this prevents contagion. Choose varieties with strong disease resistance, cold and heat tolerance, and strong branching ability. For seed selection in the second year, collect mature seeds from mother plants with vigorous growth, then wash them and select plump seeds for sowing.
4. Treatment
Soak in 55-degree hot water and stir for more than 2 minutes, stirring constantly, because the temperature is actually a bit high; this is for sterilization, and as soon as the time is up, quickly cool them in cold water, then scoop them out, so they are not scalded by being left in too long. After that, keep soaking them in 25-degree warm water; once they have absorbed water and swollen, they can be kept warm at 25 degrees and moist for germination; if not soaking, rinse them every day like bean sprouts.
5. Raising seedlings and planting
Set up a 1.3 m seedbed, 5 to 8 m long, for easy drainage; do not make it too long. Then fertilize, till fine and level the seedbed, after which you can water the bed, broadcast the seeds directly, and cover with 3 to 4 cm of soil. Cover with dry grass and scatter plant ash to keep warm and reduce moisture. After that, water every day, a small amount at a time but many times, and dig deep furrows for easy drainage. After the seedlings emerge evenly, thin and transplant them, then apply fertilizer water once every three days; if disease is found, spray promptly; when they reach 50 cm, transplant them, with 3 m between rows and 2 m between plants. After the seedlings recover from transplanting, apply fertilizer water again.
The above is the cultivation process for Guanxi honey pomelo, from introducing and selecting seeds, choosing land, through treatment, disinfection and sterilization, then sowing and raising seedlings, to mature plants and transplanting. That is the whole process of cultivation, and every step must be handled carefully and conscientiously. Of course, after planting, until the plant dies, it all counts as the management part of cultivation.
