Strawberries have a sweet and sour taste and are deeply loved by people. In recent years, China has introduced a new strawberry variety from abroad called cream strawberry, also known as Caoji, which was developed by crossbreeding two varieties. Its fruit shape is attractive, its color is bright and glossy, its juice is sweet and rich, and its flesh is soft. So how should cream strawberries be cultivated? Let's take a look.

1. Seedling selection

Seedling selection is the first step in cultivating cream strawberries well. Generally, robust seedlings with more than three leaves should be selected for cultivation. The specific procedure is to select healthy mother plants in spring, remove old, weak and diseased leaves, and then transplant and raise seedlings at a row spacing of 1 m x 0.8 m. During the high temperatures of summer, the seedlings need to be shaded to prevent strong light from scorching them or causing water loss, and measures to promote flower bud formation should also be taken.

2. Planting

One month before planting, the strawberry field needs to be tilled and sun-dried. An appropriate amount of insecticide can be added to eliminate underground pests. Cream strawberries are generally planted in October. On the day of planting, choose a cloudy day or a sunny afternoon, and avoid the high-temperature period as much as possible. Before lifting the seedlings, water the nursery thoroughly. When lifting the seedlings, keep as much soil as possible and damage the roots as little as possible. When planting, bury them shallowly and do not bury the crown. Make sure that after watering and settling, the heart leaves still remain above the soil surface. After planting, provide shade treatment to prevent high-temperature scorching.

3. Field management

After planting, pay attention to temperature and diseases. When the temperature is below 16 degrees, carry out greenhouse covering. Choose a greenhouse film with good light transmittance as much as possible to meet its light requirements. In addition, pay attention to ventilation and air exchange to avoid excessive growth or disease outbreaks caused by high temperatures. When loosening the soil after planting, pay attention to applying sufficient base fertilizer. The base fertilizer is generally a mixed application of fully decomposed farmyard manure and compound fertilizer. The amount of farmyard manure is about 4000 kg per mu, and the compound fertilizer is about 50 kg per mu. During the growth period, fertilizer should be applied multiple times to ensure yield. The fertilizers used at each growth stage are different, so pay attention. During the young fruit expansion stage, fruit thinning is needed to remove diseased, insect-damaged and deformed fruits, concentrating nutrients to ensure the growth of high-quality fruit.

4. Pests and diseases

Once strawberries suffer from pests and diseases, it will definitely have a huge impact on yield and quality, so the principle of focusing on prevention and integrated control must be adhered to. The seedling stage and planting time are periods of high incidence of anthracnose. It is recommended to disinfect the soil. Fungicides such as Baike and anthracnose Fumei can be selected for control.. After covering the greenhouse, it is recommended to fumigate the greenhouse with sulfur at night to prevent the occurrence of powdery mildew. If powdery mildew has already occurred, Amistar, Cuibei and others can be used for treatment. Pests mainly include aphids and mites such as red spiders. Aphids can be controlled with insecticides such as pirimicarb and imidacloprid, and mites can be controlled with acaricides.
