A Detailed Tutorial on the Latest Mulberry Planting Techniques and Methods
The mulberry berry is the fruit of the mulberry tree and a fruit with very high nutritional value. It currently sells for a somewhat higher price on the market than other fruits. Its economic benefit in the market is very good, and it is also very popular among the public. Nowadays some people grow mulberries to make money, so the main methods of planting still need to be clearly understood. How can you grow them for high yield, and obtain a high yield after planting? Let us take a look at the specific methods together.
1. Orchard establishment
It is best to choose a low hillside for planting. It is best if there is a water source nearby, and the roads are fairly convenient, so that transporting fertilizer and pesticides is convenient, and the transport of seedlings and the transport of picked fruit are also convenient. It is best to have a sunny hillside, so that it can receive light well. It is best to use hilly land, not a mountain that is too high, as transport is inconvenient. The soil is required to be sandy loam, with good aeration and fertilizer retention.
2. Seed selection
When selecting seeds, look for varieties suitable for mountain planting, with a relatively strong root system, able to resist drought, and able to grow in most soils. The tree vigor is required to be strong, with good disease resistance and rarely affected by disease. If it is to be eaten fresh, it is best to use Hongguo No. 2; otherwise, Hongguo No. 1 can be chosen.
2. Land preparation
First clear the weeds around the orchard, then a protective net can be set up, then plow the land deeply, and after plowing, carry out fine cultivation. The plowing depth is about 40 cm. Some farmyard manure can be used in the soil as a base fertilizer, but it does not need to be applied too much; bury it underground, and base fertilizer still needs to be applied at planting time. Level the soil; if the soil is too dry, the whole area can be irrigated once.
4. Planting density
The planting density in mountain areas is somewhat denser than on flat land. Mountain areas are somewhat easier to manage, and the ventilation and light conditions are also much better, so dense planting is used. About 300 seedlings 1 m tall are planted per mu. Dig holes for planting; after digging out the subsoil, fertilizer can be applied, 10 jin of farmyard manure per plant, then backfill the soil and mix it, then cover with soil. Let the seedling roots spread out, cover with soil up to ground level, water to settle it, then cover with soil up to the root collar.
5. Fertilizing and watering
Mainly apply more farmyard manure and less chemical fertilizer. Chemical fertilizer easily causes soil compaction, and when the soil solution concentration is too high, if too much fertilizer is applied, the roots easily lose water, and fertilizer damage occurs; afterward they instead cannot absorb water or nutrients. When fertilizing, use nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in combination, and do not apply fertilizer in a one-sided way. Fertilizing requires watering so it can be absorbed well, and the number of waterings increases during the fruiting period.
6. Pruning
After the new tree sprouts and sends out shoots, the trunk must be headed. At about 1 m 2 from the ground, head the trunk and thin the branches, keeping some branches; the retained branches should be cut back short, to promote more new branches. Select and keep branches layer by layer, so that the branches can be ensured to be vigorous and form a tree shape as quickly as possible. Unsuitable buds should be removed and not allowed to sprout.
