The Latest Cultivation Techniques for Red Beauty Mandarin
Red Beauty mandarin is a citrus variety bred in Japan, with a deep orange rind, flesh that is extremely free of residue, high sugar and premium quality, and an aroma like that of sweet orange; it is known as the nobility of citrus. So how should Red Beauty mandarin be cultivated? Let's find out together.
1. Site selection
You should choose a low-lying planting site that is warm, with fertile soil and good drainage and irrigation. Red Beauty has relatively poor cold resistance, and has relatively high requirements for heat, sunlight and nutrients, so it is best planted in a garden site that has no strong winds in winter, is warm and sunny, has sufficient sunlight, fertile soil, deep soil layers and relatively high organic matter content. It is relatively sensitive to soil moisture content, so you need to choose a place with convenient drainage and irrigation for planting, and control moisture reasonably according to actual conditions, control pests and diseases, and improve quality.
2. Fertilizer and water management
Red Beauty has relatively high demands for fertilizer and water, so fertilizer and water management need to be reasonably strengthened, and the annual fertilizer application rate should be appropriately increased. For young trees, mainly nitrogen fertilizer and organic fertilizer are used, following the principle of light fertilizer applied frequently, to cultivate a high-yielding tree shape. Fertilizer should be applied four times a year. The base fertilizer is mainly slow-release organic fertilizer, combined with chemical fertilizer and trace element fertilizer, and applied together with deep plowing to improve the soil. Before the spring shoots sprout, apply a bud-promoting fertilizer, mainly quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer and potassium fertilizer, together with Sea Elf biostimulant for the root system, to awaken the root system and promote new shoots. In July, apply a fruit-strengthening fertilizer, applying organic fertilizer, balanced compound fertilizer and medium and trace element fertilizer, and you can also drench with Sea Elf biostimulant, to achieve the goals of strengthening the fruit, promoting shoots and nourishing the roots. 10-15 days before fruit harvest, mainly use quick-acting compound fertilizer, so as to quickly restore tree vigor at present.
3. Pruning and shaping
For young trees, the main focus is on expanding the canopy, cultivating scaffold branches, and increasing the canopy's branches, twigs and leaves. After planting, for one year, promote the repeated sprouting of spring, summer and autumn shoots, to speed up canopy formation. Prune promptly and repeatedly, cultivate effective fruiting branch groups, and appropriately shorten the extension branches of the main branches and secondary main branches, to maintain a certain amount of growth and tree vigor. For adult trees, spring pruning is preferable, combined with pruning throughout the year. In spring, for trees with too many or too dense main branches, timely skylight pruning should be carried out to improve light conditions.
4. Flower and fruit management
Red Beauty has a relatively high fruit-setting rate. In addition to pruning, timely flower and fruit thinning is also needed, thereby improving quality and maintaining robust tree vigor, to achieve the goal of high and stable yields. Flower thinning is carried out from the bud-emergence stage to before flowering, mainly thinning leafless inflorescences on thin and weak branches. Fruit thinning can be done in two rounds. The first is in late June, thinning diseased and insect-damaged fruit, deformed fruit, damaged fruit, and excessively numerous and dense fruit inside the canopy; the second is in August to September, removing split fruit, diseased and insect-damaged fruit, small fruit and shoot-tip fruit. In addition, to prevent pests and diseases and improve fruit quality, the fruit can be bagged.
