To propagate seedlings of all fruit trees, the methods are more or less the same; it basically comes down to seed propagation, cutting propagation, and grafting propagation. In addition, there are propagation methods like layering and division. There may also be some other new propagation methods, but due to insufficient experimental experience, they will not be discussed much here. The main focus is on introducing the commonly used methods. Now we can take a look at some specific methods.

1. Seed propagation

For fruit trees that produce seeds, as long as the seeds are not so hard that they cannot break through to germinate, they can all be sown to raise seedlings; it is just that the germination rate of the seeds will differ. Some will germinate quickly, some take longer, and some need human intervention to break dormancy and germinate. The requirements for germination temperature, moisture, and light will also differ. Most seedlings grown from seed can guarantee stable inherited traits, and this is their greatest advantage.

2. Cutting propagation

Some fruit tree branches are naturally strong at sprouting, so their branches, stems, and leaves can be used to grow new plants. My teacher said that in theory all fruit trees can be propagated by cuttings, it is just that the survival rate varies from high to low. Cuttings take a short time to grow and are very easy to survive. It is a very popular asexual propagation method. However, if cuttings are taken for many generations, traits are prone to change and degeneration.

3. Grafting propagation

Use some wild fruit trees from the mountains that have strong adaptability and graft high-quality, large-fruited cultivated fruit trees onto them. In this way, it may be possible to achieve both strong adaptability and improved disease resistance, while also growing robust fruit. In any case, the goal is to combine excellent traits. Saplings produced by this method are relatively high quality and suitable for promotion and planting. They are not subject to some restrictions, but there are many issues to pay attention to, and the operation is somewhat troublesome.

4. Division

For example, pineapple, which can produce tillers, can use these tillers: cut off the small tillers and then cultivate them separately, planting them into a new plant. In this way, growing and placing them is relatively simple. This method generally does not cause genetic decline; it is a natural propagation method. Division is easy to cultivate and plant.

5. Layering

Directly choose vigorous branches, girdle them, then wrap them with soil and moss. After keeping them moist, this encourages rooting; once roots have formed, cut them off and they become new saplings. This method is suitable for plants with strong growth vigor; some are very difficult to root. Also, this operation process is cumbersome and takes quite a long time. Its characteristics are not necessarily stable.

Generally, fruit tree sapling propagation mainly uses the first three methods, while the latter two are used occasionally. Division is more suitable for some flowers. Shoot segments are more suitable for some shrub fruit trees. Each one has advantages and disadvantages. Choosing the most suitable one is best.
